What is required of me when I attempt to make an audio clip out of a .MID file if I were to include one in my levels?

There's a techno version of TR2 that I did up and am dying to put it on my level as background music.

You simply need to PLAY the MIDI file e.g. with MediaPlayer and RECORD it with a simple wave recorder, so that you get a MIDI file.
Quite simple, isnīt it? :-)
