hi everyone, hope you can help me get the level editor working...when i start the winroomedit.exe thing, norton crashguard intercepts it and says its performed an Access Violation at a certain hex-address. when turning crashguard off, the whole system just locks up and has to be rebooted, i just want the editor to work, and eidos are taking ages to reply to an email... my screen resolution is 16bit, 1024x768 and my minimum requirements are far more than the ones stated on the box. any idea????? cheers everyone! matt ps: is anyone else having crash problems through tr: chronicles where it just locks up when you attack an ememy??? my graphics card and 3dfx card drivers are updated and still no luck. i have removed bilinear filtering from setup and it works, but with poor and unplayable graphics. the level editor refuses to work, keeps performing an access violation, is installed on the c:\ drive in the default folder with full install, 1024x768 and 16bit...any ideas??IP: Logged |

In regards to Norton or any other automatic computer screwing programs. I do not recommend running any programs on startup. I especially DO NOT EVER recommend running Norton CrapGuard: It crashes the computer way easier than you do just using it.What about virus protection? Believe it or not, the anti virus only scans what you already have on your hard drive. So there is no point in running it except to check downloaded files, and once a week the whole computer. Sometimes Norton does things in the background specifically for the purpose of checking to make sure it will startup when you boot. Some people think that the more icons in the tray you have, the better it is. WRONG. The only icon that should start, if you want peak performance, is volume control (even get rid of that one too). You can also get rid of the clock. A lot of programs, especially third party ones, run invisibly. The more advanced ones even hide from the task managers. If you are not sure what you have running on your computer, there are more programs that will tell all you need to know, even which DLLs are used by what program. Well anyway the point is...you computer was setup to be sellable to paranoid people. The same people who made it so hard to have fun anymore. So be sure who is running your comp. Some progs actually send out your personal info while you are using them! I don't know how I got to this point from advice on sNorton, but still you should know...:| Oh one more thing InoculateIT is good for AV replacement. It is free on the net as well. IP: Logged |

Hi.You should kill as many background tasks as possible. (stopīn close programs running in background) Doing this fixed my problems with the editor-crashes. Greetz. IP: Logged |

What about this: virus.bat: ren pretty.bmp virus.exe So be careful: if you do NOT use Norton Autoprotect (my NAV 2001 works fine w/ TR1-5 and TRLE) you might really get a virus. Make sure you have set Autoprotect to "scan all files", otherwise you may miss such an easy renaming process. By simply scanning all downloaded files (and only these) you are of course NOT as good protected as if you would use Autoprotect. Especially if you get such pretty worms in your e-mail (which happened some times in the PHP-list) Autoprotect & eMail-Protection is a must. Look: I had a virus (back in 1997) and since Iīm using NAV (2.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0) I have no virus problems anymore. Just a good recommendation (and completely off-topic IP: Logged |
