Please HELP !!!

I have successfully installed and played TR4, as well, I have successfully installed and played Chronicles. I have successfully
installed TR4LE and played the sample games. However, even though the TR4LE has been installed (standard/full install) I get this window error when trying to launch the "Room Editor". And yes, I have done the obvious and set desktop to 1024x768 @ 16bit colors.

Regards,
Gerry

Hello...

I have similar problem.
I have Voodoo 1 and Tseng ET6000. RE will not run, because it crashed (illegal operation).
I have latest drivers for Voodoo and ET6000. My depth color is 16bit in 1024x768. Of course DirectX 7 is installed. It is always too when I try to run Room Editor and when I change my Graphic Adapter in TR5 or TR4 setup. I tested other drivers, resolutions, bit depths, operating systems, DirectX versions, BIOS setup and I have only this problem with illegal operation.

More likely to be voodoo 1/2s inability to render in a window. Try disabling the card and then rebooting.

After some further investigation I am almost certain that the problem is due to the availability of only 64mb. I tried running in 800x600 mode and it was ok. Time to upgrade to 128mb I guess.

If you're going to upgrade anyway, why not just upgrade to 512mb? That'll take care of your memory problems for at least the next two years...

Best regards,
Striffelbuur.

Hi All,

I had this problem and I still have that problem. I have a Pentium 166 and a Voodoo2 12mb. However, I got it goin'

If I turn the res down to 800*600 it works. Although I can't put lighting in (which really takes the realism down) and i can't switch to different textures manually without using the keys on the keyboard, unless I switch back and forth from 800*600 and 1024*768. So I suggest you start up TRLE in 800*600, then change it to 1024*768. Works for me

I have the same problem, and was able to overcome it (usually) in the same fashion that Scorpion has. Start it it 800x600 and switch the res after your prj is loaded.
The only viable reason I've heard so far is that my ATI Rage Pro vid card only has 4mb of mem, and should have at least 8mb for 1024x768 to work correctly.

jeez this editor needs a patch jeez what a wierd damn thing, it works but you need to be lucky enough to have the same specs as eidos or like me buy a new machine, i am spending a small fortune on a new pc, with d3d instead of voodoo and 512Mb ram with an athlon 1.4. i bet the thing still wont work, anyway all the best those who have it working and to those who cannot. i am somewhere in between, will go and try this 600 by 800, i found out my plug and play was not configured to run at 1100 = 876 used powerstrip to get it to work, the editorseems to illegally operate but i can still do stuff but it is very unstable i click on the switch box or find object and woah here i go.

D3D INSTEAD of Voodoo?
D3D is just a layer of software that runs on top of the video card driver. It even works with Voodoo.

The editor doesn't require a real big machine. You are working with lots of 3D graphics, so if you use hardware acceleration you need lots of video ram. The bigger your level, the more objects in the wad, the more video memory you need.
When they aren't being displayed, they also need lots of system ram. If it wasn't for Windows, 64MB would probably be plenty.

I have an ATI card and run at 1600x1200, 32-bit color and don't have any problems. Except when something gets corrupted in the project.

Just a suggestion, try saving more often. After a few saves, quit the editor and go back in. It could be memory management screwing up.
