hi again
another posting of chaos, yeah..

well i am still not getting to see why eidos can't release those darn wad tools
we can get them to work or something...
i satarted hacking (oops did i just say that???) the wad files but i really wish core someday will release those tools, along with tomb raider's source codes (since they are not using the engine anymore...)
Reb do your stuff help us!!

remember fols, core /eidos did a great job releasing the editor already, so i am not being rude or anything... i just to want to merge for exemple one of those thingy monsters (from tr1) in a level like city of the dead...
and another question : is eidos going to give us the levels (*.prj) of the fist tomb raiders too? those would rule... they were the best
tomb raider is still rules although we could have the source coded to make open gl version.. that would be much better..
core - eidos help the fans...

i think it's all

see ya
happy new year

The level editor has been different and so has the level file format in each game, so you cannot use old levels directly. You would have to use a conversion tool, and know both the file formats.

Why would an OpenGL version be 'much better'?
I can't even use OpenGL on my own computer, and it is only faster than Direct3D on some cards, and on other cards Direct3D is faster. I cannot see how an OpenGL version would be beneficial.

Of course Core could convert the WADs in the previous TR games to TRLR standards for us, thereby giving us the necessary WADs (or they could give us a WAD editor) if they really wanted to. The question is: do they want to?

Just putting in my two cents.

Personally I think it would be more than enough if there would be a library of most of the objects used throughout TR4 & TR5, and the ability to select a list of these objects and compile them into a WAD; if one could then also edit the textures, I think most of the levels one might think up could be created...

Actually, I would be extremely happy if I could use the water-dispenser from the beginning of the 'Escape with the Iris'-level, a toilet, a potted plant, an office desk (with computer on it), and an office chair... those are all the props I really need to finalize the level I really really really wish to complete.

Indeed; I think many people tend to forget that not only we've got the editor thanks to Core/Eidos, but that it provides nearly everything needed to build levels of the quality found in TR4...

Greetz,

Yeah, it only took about five years for them to release it to the public.

True, but I can also imagine that it is quite a scary thing when you are about to share your development-tools with the public for the first time in your life...

I've always been all for the 'don't kill and destroy; SHARE and ENJOY!!!' spirit, but once your company begins to grow, and the pile of contracts with various people starts getting bigger, you realize that making a project open-source might just be a vary bad move...

Still, as I said, I'm all for the sharing of knowledge, but I've learned that in this crazy and deranged world of contracts and lawsuits, it's just not always possible, even if it would truly benefit the quality of the end-result...

It's a f*cked-up world, so we can only try to make the best of it whenever the opportunities present themselves...

In the end, I wouldn't be surprised if, in 5 or 10 years time, there will be a completely open-source engine for a multi-user gaming environment; This might just completely reshape the entire approach of the gaming industry, and force companies to rethink their intentions, objectives, and their purpose.

Best regards,
Striffelbuur.

To me a wad editor would be cool but thinking
about it being released anytime soon doesent seem likely because if they did, it would def have a major impact on core/eidos future role in the TR editor. If we could just make any files we wanted to use for the editor then I think that would decrease the value of the entire project. I think its almost asking for to much but like said it would be great. My point is if we wont need them to compile wads for us then what future role would they play in the TRLE's future?
I think that would be something close to zero
and I wouldnt want that at all because for one thing we can make our own textures but I
have not seen any that anybody has made or on the web that even looks half as good as the textures in the editor. Now what does look likely is going to the store and buying
an add on pack for the editor which would let you create the older TR levels, or going to the store and buying a cd full of wads.
I would buy it,,,,no problem,,,,,but not for the price of a game.

Guys.. don't ge so closed..
OpenGl, D3d, Glide, whatever we want Only if we had the sources, we could remake the BEST tomb raider to a new engine, so we could play that great levels now...

i still think that the first tomb raider is THE real one, real tombs and stuff

if core wants, they can release everything, since they are now working on a NEW engine, i just think that they are just getting the files done, the helps made, etc..
they will have no problm releasing those tool, and sources if they really want and if ALL of us ask them, i meen, it is great that they released the editor n the first place, and we are not demenading anything, we are just asking...
Guys, Alone i think i can't do it, but since i am a programmer, i am really able to start working on the source to modify it to our current hardware...
again, we should do this ALL togheter...
now it's up to all of you...
