I'm not complaining to start off (just wondering) I just found out how to make Cut scenes and Cinematics in HMFakk2 so I was wondering if there is a way to make them in TR.
anyone know? ___________________________________________________________________________________________ "Hey come inside while I stand here acting bored" IP: Logged |

I don't think you can? You would probably need the FMV program that Core used. I doubt that we will ever get it.------------------ Never give-up! unless the situation is hopeless:) IP: Logged |

I doubt most people will ever get good enough at 3d-animating to make a decent FMV, so I don't really think this is a short-coming of the editor... I bet that if one really tries, one is bound to find a way to make the TR-program jump to a rendered movieclip and back to the game afterwards... If I'm not mistaken, the FMV's in TR are in Bink-format, so one could use programs like LightWave, 3DStudio, or Maya to make the animations, and then convert them to this format... Best regards, Striffelbuur.

Although I agree completely, I think your comment is pretty insulting to us, no offense. ------------------ Never give-up! unless the situation is hopeless:) IP: Logged |

Too, bad if they don't I am good with that kind of stuff.Well, actually I don't mind too much. I anything I will change Julie's body around to look like Lara, it won't be the same as TR, but hey why not. IP: Logged |

My apologies if you interpreted it as such; I just don't think it would be very usefull to sell software like Maya together with the Level Editor, as 99% of the people will feel pretty ripped off (programs like these tend to be some 20 times more expensive than a normal game) because it will take them years before they can make anything even resembling the FMV's as seen in the Tombraiders games; even with a bit of software that's as easy to operate as the Level Editor itself, people are complaining. Besides, if you've been working with computers long enough to produce 3d-animations, you also know the people who can hack Tombraider to show your homemade FMV's in between levels... I've been studying 3d computer animation for 4 years and I think I could create a decent enough FMV given enough time and the software at home to create it.Striffelbuur, that kind of software is slightly more than 20 times the price of a computer game. It is closer to the £4000 mark, and that's for the cheapest software package: 3D Studio Max. Maya and Softimage (which are primarily used for the film industry - think Independence Day and Star Wars) cost a lot more, probably double that at least. IP: Logged |

Exactly my point; imagine the complaints of people who haven't been doing any 3d-animation at all, who'd have to pay £4000 for a level-editor including the software to create decent FMV's with, once they find out they'll be spending the next 4 years to create something similar... I don't think it would be very realistic... Most people I work with in the computer-industry simply have to use that kind of software to run their business, but if you don't make any money with such software, it's very difficult to be able to afford it. Best regards, Striffelbuur.

Exactly. If you can't justify the price for buying such software, then you shouldn't buy it. Now where's my lottery ticket? IP: Logged |

I think people here should clearly make a difference between FMV and cutscenes. Cutscenes are rendered with the game's engine, FMV are movie-filesIP: Logged |

I would have thought that the FMVs would be easyier to do, as any animation software could used, as long as the file was saved in the right format and then trigered from the game.Cutscenes would require core design software. I get the feeling that core don't want to give away too many of their secrets in one go. IP: Logged |

For the record I know what FMV's are, full motion videos like the opening EIDOS scene or the first movie in TR1. I am saying this because my original post may have been interpereted as if I did not know.------------------ Never give-up! unless the situation is hopeless:) IP: Logged |
