ok, i want to make a kind of village like the one in coastal village in tomb raider 3.
i can make the little huts alright so far but i have no idea how to do the roofs of the huts. any ideas?

Time to stack rooms

Select a new room and bound it to the same size as the room below. Now build the roofs, using if necessary the X and Y coordinates (sp ?) you get when selecting a square on the Plan View Grid. Once you've built the roofs, put the room above the "house room" select the whole floor of the room and press the "door" button.

I've you've used smaller rooms instead of one big to build your village, you should repeat the process above for each room, or you'll run into problems trying to connect rooms because one door cannot open to different rooms !
