Has anyone worked out how to get the horizon object in the City WAD to work? All it get is a large ring on the ground and nothing but black on the horizon.IP: Logged |

Using the new city wad, I can get as far as this: Actually, a bit further (as I can edit the texture of the animated sky at the top), but the two don't actually meet as you can see... Does anyone know how to make these two connect? Thanks very much in advance, Best regards, Striffelbuur

Are you sure you are outputting it as newcity.tom and did you copy the new .dat files into your root directory?

Yes, I was wondering about the new wad. I think I can do something with that, even if they don't meet. Have you had any luck changeing the colour of the sky? My graphics program refuses to save in RAW format. How very dull of it! Thanks for that. IP: Logged |

Ah, there could be the problem; I've copied all the newcity-files, renamed them (for example: newcity.wad -> whatever.wad, etc), and output them to whatever.tom, and compiled them to whatever.tr4. I then altered the script.dat to make the Tutorial Level point to whatever.tr4 instead of tut1.tr4. I've now changed this and indeed, it does solve the problem! Thanks very much! Unfortunately, when I 'Exit to title', the game now quits and jumps back to my desktop... Is there anything known about this problem? Thanks very much in advance, Best regards, Striffelbuur.

I get that exit problem too.But I still can not get any form of horizon graphic to appear. It's just not there. i.e. I get black only. I know how to change the graphics in the WAD. But how did you get the horizon to appear? Was it there from the beggining? or did you place the horizon object in the map somewhere. If so where and how? When I put the horizon graphic in I just get a ring about 4 clicks high. If I use the karnak wad in the level, I get a really nice horizon. but not in the city. I may try a new test level to get this sorted out as it is bugging me. Any help would be appriciated. IP: Logged |

I suppose it helps if you use the right "new"city WAD. All works fine now. Thanks, One thing, There is a lense flare effect, which shines through my building now. Is there a way to control this or maybe remove it if required? IP: Logged |

I've just solved it, though I'm not sure as to the cause though. Here's what I did: I copied all the newcity-files and renamed them to my own level-name (in this case usmedia.*); I changed the script.dat to make the tutorial level point to my usmedia.tr4, and replaced the Horizon-lines in the script with the ones used for newcity... as I haven't got around to experimenting with puzzles yet, and am currently still toying around getting the grips with what's possible with architecture and what isn't, I don't know anything about the Puzzle-scriptlines yet, but my script.txt now has the following entry instead of the tutorial-entry: [Level] Name= Us Media Legend= Welcome to the Us Media offices! Horizon= ENABLED Layer1= 128,128,128,-8 ColAddHorizon= ENABLED LensFlare= 250000,-32000,110000,128,96,0 PuzzleCombo= 3,1,Cartouche Piece 1, $0000,$0400,$0000,$0000,$0000,$0002 PuzzleCombo= 3,2,Cartouche Piece 2, $0000,$0400,$0000,$0000,$0000,$0002 Puzzle= 3,Ba Cartouche, $0000,$0400,$0000,$0000,$0000,$0002 Puzzle= 5,Eye Of Horus, $0017,$0500,$0000,$0000,$0000,$0002 PuzzleCombo= 5,1,Eye Piece, $0017,$0500,$0000,$0000,$0000,$0002 PuzzleCombo= 5,2,Eye Piece, $0017,$0500,$0000,$0000,$0000,$0002 Puzzle= 6,The Hand Of Orion, $0000,$0400,$8000,$c000,$0000,$0002 Puzzle= 8,The Hand Of Sirius, $0000,$0400,$8000,$c000,$0000,$0002 LoadCamera= 0,0,0,0,0,0,255 LoadCamera= 11088,-1100,28896,11119,-1399,31486,0 Level= DATA\USMEDIA,107 quote: But how did you get the horizon to appear? Well, in the first buggy version of the city-wad, I didn't get a horizon either; using the newcity-wad instantly fixed this; you don't have to place the horizon graphic in your level: it's automatically there when you use this wad. Best of luck, Striffelbuur.

Firstly, you should download the latest WADs from eidos if you haven't already.Changeing the sky colour can be done by 1 editing the RAW file in something like paint shop pro 2 editing the script file in notepad (see above for details) I haven't tried either yet. You should only need dos when updating script files after editing. see creating your own projects in the manual. I hope that helps. IP: Logged |

Thank,s for the tip ,I am postponing the raw file editing but have just semisuccessfully set up the new wads..my sky in new.city ok and it appears the sky animated text.layers join the horizon 'wrap', say 1 click down so you end up with the very top of the horizon showing through the edges of the sky text.--creating a transitional band so to speek .I found something out that might help save heart-ache when planning out side rooms or views... lara's viewing distance is about 20 blocks , the textures in rooms past that distance take on that blackhole finish that unfortionatly allows the horizon into her sight and you can find yourself with the horizon showing through in side a BIG room !! very disheartening after hoping to use an animated sky !
