When I try to put some new textures into my the level editor it says incorrect TGA format, also I've used programs like Jack, and TRview ,I've also saved the textures in the windows paint program as TGA but I still get the same message - incorrect TGA format.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong

Format certainly seems to be the problem. Are you sure paint is saving the the files as TGA? Just 'cause it has a TGA extension doesn't meen it is one. It could be a bitmap in disguise.

Try a different program. Jasc do a 30 day demo of, I think it's paint shop pro. a lot of people use it on this site. you can download it from their site. http://www.jasc.com/

hope this helps.

Windows Paint can NOT save in tga.Paint Shop Pro is really powerful for a shareware program and you should try it.When saving, press the options button and select 24bit ,Uncompressed

Hallo there!

When finishing your work on that particular tga file make sure you do not save the marked areas (when placing, cutting textures) whithin tga.

This might help you!

Bye
