As a novice at using TR level editor, I wonder if there were any tips an experienced user could inform me of, about how to get the best out of it?------------------ THE DUDE WHOM LARA PUTS IN THE MOOD... [This message has been edited by corani (edited 05-13-2001).] IP: Logged |

1.) Don't make yer levels too linear (which is why the lost temples sucked!)2.) Do NOT depend on autosaves! Always save to a seperate file, just in case something happens... 3.) Use music & flybys. 4.) Beta test often! I must have put the Ice Age in-game a million times before I got the first 26 rooms right! Well, 25 anyway... 5.) Pay a LOT of attention to camera angles! Especially on steep slopes. 6.) Always ask for help here in these forums. I try 2 B as helpful as possible! 7.) If U want to make lara climb or monkey swing, you need the revised wads. They can B downloaded at: http://www.eidosinteractive.com/downloads/search.html?gmid=103 8.) You might want some other TR4 wads. Go to: http://www.tombraider.ic24.net/wads.htm 9.) When beta testing, you might wanna use the flying cheat code (which is typing the word DOZY). 10.) Set your screen resolution to 1024x768. 11.) Refer 2 the manual, sometimes even though it sucks. 12.) HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK!!!

1. Read the manual and print it off.2. Work through the tutorial slowly and carefully making sure you understand each section as you go. 3. Load up Core`s prj files to see how they did things and then back engineer them. The only way to learn stuff that isn`t in the manual. 4. Be logical with your puzzles but challenging. A level can never be too hard! Remember you are making a stand alone level not a full game so make it worth the download. 5. Unless you`re doing any customisation to the sound or textures etc you can get away with only making the TOM file available for download. 6. Zip your uploaded levels together with a good readme file to instruct players how to install etc. 7. Make sure Lara cannot be trapped in a level. Killed yes but not trapped. There must always be a way out. 8. Don`t use more than 20 flame emitters as it causes a bug with the flares and binoculars. 9. Use flipmaps. 10. As the others have said NEVER overwrite a saved file. Save often and ALWAYS to a new file and above all have fun making them and make them fun to play! ------------------ Will Gell www.wgell.net Download Raid On featuring Lara... www.wflg.clara.co.uk/music/raidon.mp3 IP: Logged |

mmmmm THAT'S RIGHT!!!! It was out of my mind.... I could not understand why "at a certain moment" the lights for the shots or flares did not work anymore.... I used more than 30 flame emitter (1-2-3)!!!! but they are necessary, so I will do without their lights..... so, it is not a guilty of my own wad, but it is a known bug....------------------ | |--->> psiko <<---| | IP: Logged |

Oh, and of course, the main rule of the TRLE is to DOWNLOAD THE ICE AGE!!! Well, when I finish, anyway...------------------ Take the blue pill, and you wake up in your bed, and believe what ever you want to believe. Thanks for all your replies.so now i know the do's & dont's. so how many hours does it take to become familiar in its basic usage? ie- how long would it take me to create a 1.4 mb file as a beginner? -vc [This message has been edited by corani (edited 05-13-2001).] IP: Logged |

Depends on the level of time you can devote to it and the size of your inspiration. Most of us experience a certain loss of momentum at some point while building a level which means it gets left in a dark room for a bit, other nights you keep at till the early hours because the ideas are flowing. Mine, "All Cats Are Grey", took three months of working on and off to complete. Will is right though, do build the tutorial level rather than just reading a manual it helps you to understand some of the weird limitations of Lara's world and some of the inviolable rules - stacking special triggers, paper thin walls etc.Get an idea and run with it, download a few levels (and if necessary ask the author if they will send you their prj), so you can see how they do it. another advice: you soon will learn how to create a personal WAD and you will use a personal texture palette: so, name you PRJ file telling you this: for example:tut5-texture4-11.prj this means: I used the personal wad tut5 with texture4.tga and this is the 11th version of my project ------------------ | |--->> psiko <<---| | IP: Logged |
