I have been using some objects from alexhub.TR4 via TRWEST (great program) and have some problems with Lara walking through objects. I was checking out the "Edit Objects" menu Item in TRLE in an attempt to correct this and the selections available are quite cryptic. The manual says nothing about how to use this feature. All I have been able to do is make the entire block that the object is on (which in some csses is much larger than the object itself) impassaable. I have found answers to almost every editing question I have ever had by searching through this forum, but have yet to find anything that can help here. Thank you all for your helpfull posts and in adavance for answering this question. Also what is the use of an MIP object? what does MIP mean? Why do they exist?
Gratefuly seeking answers.

Even if there is the EDIT OBJECT feature, it is not so useful as it seems at first sight: I used ALL the list of feature for ALL the objects in the title wad, changing even the settings: what I learned is that not all the object are editable, couse the editing did not give them a change. So, if you meet an object that it is not done for lara's interaction, simply you can't set the collision: for some objects you can only "build" a virtual wall simply using the FLOOR feature from the edit object command: start from the center of the little window that appears to you, (it is approssimatively the point where you click to put the object in the map) and click once for one click floor, 4 times for a square, etc, etc... even negative click works, in this case.... (but only if the feature works from the beginning with that object, couse NOT all the features work with ALL the objects... this means, only if the object, I think, was projected for them)...MIP is the NOT HIGH RESOLUTION version from some objects, this means the same object when it is far from Lara with less polygons.... you can avoid to put them in your personal wads ------------------ | |--->> psiko <<---| | IP: Logged |

I would be careful of omitting the Mip objects, though you should never place them in your level, they should be in your wad. with out the mip the editor will replace the intended object with lara's body parts. this may not be the case with every object that has an associated MIP, but there are at least several that will give you this result without it. refer to trwest home page. -rob

Rob-Yhanks for your cautionary message. I will take that into account. I have been trying to use some of the furnature from Jean Yves office an most of it is typed as an animation and they have associated Mips. even with the Mips in the wad Lara still walks through most of the Items (ie. Jeans desk) but does not through some of the chairs. Thanks again for your help. IP: Logged |
