I guess some level designers work out what they want the level to achieve in playability, i however, just make them up as I go along (what do you mean it looks like it???) I like my levels to have some kind of realism to them and then just go a little over the top. Humour is just as important as scaring the life out of someone who is playing your level. Just make the whole level easy enough for someone to complete, but difficult enough to make the player feel like they have acheived something when they finally figure it out. I have created about 30 levels so far but only 5 have been posted on the internet. All the others have either been shelved because I couldn't quite get something to work or deleted because of the limitations of the editor. Hope this helps in some way..------------------ All phenomena possess two natures That which is revealed by correct perception And that which is induced by deceptive perception. The object of correct perception is ultimate reality. The object of deceptive perception is conventional reality. First, work out a theme. What do you want the level to be? A jungle adventure? A dark city? An egyptian mystery? Watch movies, look at pictures of different things that interest you online, play previous TR's. (During this time you should pick out a texture set)Second, find a wad. What wad do you want to use? There are many wads out there, many of which can be found at www.tombraider.ic24.net pick the wad you think will suit the level. Third: Plan your level! Do some sketching of rooms, write down puzzles and traps, make a map of the level. Think of different designs. What is the goal at the end? Fourth: Read the manual then build! The manual can provide lots of basic information about level building, also feel free to ask questions here. Fifth: Go to it!If you encounter a Builders Block, just jot down random sketches and drawings. Sixth: This is just a piece of advice from me. SMALLER IS BIGGER!! Don't ceate a level where everything DWARFS Lara, those types of levels are really amaturish IMO. Smaller rooms make the level have more atmosphere, and if you do decide to do large rooms, it is IMPERATIVE you create a flyby. Here is an example of a room that is small, yet has alot of atmosphere. Hope that helped! ------------------ BRM ---------------------
