I've had Rhino for some time and when it comes to creating objects (I've just done a passable Bathespere). Out of curiosity, has anybody used this and particulaly been able to drop it into another program AND put their own textures on whatever they created??? This part of Rhino has always eluded me... Billy the Kid.
PS By 'other program' I don't mean Tombraider... as Rhino is'nt the best for this.

I had some success altering meshes in rhino, then retexture in strpix, and importing back to wad. but never with my own (from scratch objects). I still have allot to learn in rhino, as I only know about 50% of the features. where you looking to render your model in an outside prog such as light wave. I know this is common.

Howdy Robbase.
To be able to add texture to an original object would be great. The situation is this. I made a model of a Bathespere (submarine....). The problem next is applying textures to the model (made more difficult as none exist).Do you know a way I could do this????thanks. Billy

It depends on what your trying to do exactly. If your purpose is strictly for the sake of art this could be done in rhino, lightwave, or similar progs. Here is an example of something I modeled, and textured in rhino. http://paradox730.tripod.com/25v1.1.jpg

this may be old news to you (and not what your asking), so please don't take offense.
to texture an object in rhino select object properties, (top tool bar, left of shade and render). here you can add in your pix for texture and bump. you can also adjust the transparency and the way the light will hit the object. the limitations are: you can not adjust the sizing of a texture to an object, or adjust the x,y,z angels of how it is applied. however these things can be corrected in outside paint progs(though it's tedious work).
hope this helps to answer your questions, though I may have misunderstood what you were asking.

in Rhino3D, if you want to apply textures,
take a side view photograph of the sub(as a .bmp)

in perspective view, grab the side meshes
and re-position them in the "front view"
screen, so that they are "flat", like a
*planar UV map* would be...

select them and apply the .bmp to them.

using "snap to vertice points", snap this
mesh back into it's original place...
("perspective view" works well for this operation...)

& that's why many folks like using
3D Max for texturing models..;Rhino's
VERY good for building them, not so good for texturing them.

Thanks Pards for the help with 3D. I'm very interested in 3D modelling BUT... I'm not an experienced user so I appreciate any suggestions given. Thanks to 'Vagrant' for his detailed help, I'm about to try it out. But ...were can I get 3Dmax from, and will it be extreamly expensive????? Billy

I have 3D Studio Max and yes, it's very expensive (about 1000 dollars IIRC)

hi Rob, Billy --- the Indian motorcycles;
aren't they awe-inspiring? a stick shift?,running boards,full fender skirts (*gasp* how kool!)

i don't know much about TRLE model building,so i probably can't be of help,but---

my Chieftan model is from the Quadbike;uses
it's & Lara's animation sequences to play in TR3 .

I shrunk & moved 2 un-needed wheels into the
model's interior; re-positioned the remaining,re-set their bounding boxes, "stretched" the wheelbase for starters.

I had to "slide" the whole model backwards, so that Lara sat on it properly; it's
built to fit her,actually---

I used TRviewer version 5.0 & Rhino3D;
there's still much work to do on it.
but, it's fun to drop this model into TR3's "House" level.(right next to Lara's bed;
girl gets out of bed & rides around the Manse=start of a perfect day...)

thanks for your interest, good luck,
Vagrant
