Hello Everybody,I represent a Market Research Company who are working with "Net" Magazine for a forthcoming article on Levels made with the Tomb Raider Level Editor. We need your views on the sites that have these user created levels to download. We are looking at rather than just the number of levels available, the quality of the levels you download from each site and how that varies and any extra features that those sites provide to help things like installing, rating and providing feedback to the authors. Please could I ask as many of you as possible to reply to this thread with your views and comments, please make sure you name the site that your comments refer to, so we may visit them for ourselves. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Tara (for M.R.S. Response)

There are many worthwhile sites I go to daily, but to answer within your parameters, I nominate two sites.1. http://trchronicles.com/ This has around 190+ levels and all levels now come with a unique installer so that even the most PC illiterate will be able to install and play the levels. 2. http://www.mprager.de/TombRaider_IV/Level_Index/level_index.html This site offers links to 240+ levels and has reviews on 70% of them, so that you can choose the ones that appeal to you with a bit more knowledge of what the level offers. Thanks, Torry, for nominating my site, but as you are on the Review staff, I guess I would have expected that For clarification: The reason for me to continue working on my site on a daily basis with all the great help and input from the community is that I have not seen another site which lists and thus credits levels by author and I believe there is no site out there with anywhere near the same number of detailed and quality ratings and reviews. I am however not hosting any levels, only linking to them, as opposed to sites like trchronicles.com or tombraider-customlevels.fsnet.co.uk, which in turn I visit on a daily basis. Would be interested to see whatever the outcome of your research is. Just keep us posted here on the forum! ------------------ HAPPY RAIDING! Michael. IP: Logged |

Erm...is it just me, or are all you guys missing the point?I think what she[Tara] is after is your opinion about the sites out there rather than just a plug for your own. course I could be wrong. Col.

We could be missing the point but Tara did ask for the names of the sites so they could review them. Any way I can't say that any site is particularily better then another because they all offer something different and everyone has there on views.------------------ Never give-up! unless the situation is hopeless:) The only thing certain in life is uncertainty! Hi,To my knowledge, the only sites that REALLY HOST Tomb raider levels are Trchronicles.com by MissLara2U, and Tombraider.customlevels.com, by Colin. For some personnal reasons, especially the friendly and helpful contacts, my preference goes to the second. Not only Colin provides the most recent levels but you can also get the tools for the best TR editing. BTW, the DOS installation programmme mentionned above in another post, was initially developped by Colin and Co. justice be done! Also, Colin is an active member of the TRLE forum, meaning that you can refer to him whenever you have a question concerning editing and creating a TR level as well as help for installing and running a downloaded level. Answering to a subsequent question, I'd say that many of the members of this forum host their own creations, being levels or outfits or edited objects. They are not the least ones to help out and answer posts. So I suggest your enquiry to consider also outfits and programmes creators.... Hope this answered to the question... JB

ehr... If I may add this... Michael Prager is not actually hosting levels but he is a very good source of reference for rating and choosing levels. His site (mprager.com, right?) features the most recent levels (as well as the pionner levels) with rating and comments from players... This is a good reference!!!!!Jb IP: Logged |

Colin, you are quite right. What I need is what people actually think of all of your sites. We pretty much know the ones out there, but we just need to match comments up with site names, so no good saying "I really like John's site if we don't know which site is John's". Thanks for the responses so far but really it's the site visitors rather than the webmasters we need to hear from. Tara (for M.R.S. Response)

I think M Pragers website ( http://mprager.de ) is an excellent base for levels and reviews. Even though the levels are not actually hosted by him they are linked and checked. I really respect the web master for keeping up to date with it all. Tons of levels are added every week and about 70% of the levels have been rated by site or guest reviewers. I think the fact that you can receive nearly all the custom levels in the world from that site is an excellent advantage to Tomb Raider fans, however I disagree with some of the ratings -some of the views put across are harsh on editors and are sometimes inappropriately plain nasty. I think ratings are a good idea but editors should be asked whether they want that applied on their level. Some editors don't want to know what people think, some do. That's people. There's my view. Well then, as my own site has been mentioned here already a few times, and as Col has nicely put us on the right track on what this thread is about , here is my very own humble view:All of the sites that I link from my site are great and unique in their own appearance. As I am not (yet) so much into all the tools, goodies, outfits, etc. my comments here focus on Level Sites I visit in order to keep my link listing up to date 1. www.tombraider-customlevels.fsnet.co.uk by Colin & Mike because they are a friendly bunch of people with a lot of energy and just soooo helpful to everybody. I like the '# of downloads' ranking, the screenshots, all the TR goodies and sometimes even check the BBS, but I hate that I have to search through the whole list all the time for new levels...(and that I still have not received my 'Level of the Month of April' award for 'Blue Sphere' ) 2. www.trchronicles.com because there you find more and more levels hosted and quite a neat installer for the levels, but here also I hate the lack of any sort order apart from (sometimes, not always) the date/time of posting the level in... 3. http://home01.wxs.nl/~eland037/index.htm because this is a fresh out of the ground site with a long level list and Henk and I have been very helpful to each other so far 4. www.trlevels.co.uk because Neil is changing his layout every other week (just kidding) - no, but I do like the way the site is designed including goodies, a forum and I cannot wait for his Titanic level. The Big Project that he hosts seems to have gone under though 5. www.jps.net/mikejj the pioneer of an ever up to date simple format custom level listing, but it seems he is busy with some other things recently and not able to quite keep the pace. 6. www.eidos.de/forum/index this forum (in German) hosts a great Levellist which structures the discussion, tips&tricks that came up for the respective levels in a way to easily find them and therefore is a good source for me when I am stuck when playing levels 7. [URL]http://trclc.tripod.com[URL] pwhirl just re-appeared from the dead, so I hope his site will be back soon to match up with the others 8. www.levelworld.org fully automated site I believe and for that reason has not been updated for many weeks 9. www.tombraiders.com used to be my favourite forum to discuss levels until it sadly died... Phew! How's that for a long post ------------------ HAPPY RAIDING! Michael.

Ok I am gonna keep this short and sweet..... I haven't the time to play other peoples levels as I am too busy making my own, but if I want to see whats "out there", I will go to micheals site http://www.mprager.de . If I want to download a level or a tool I will look at Colin/Mikes site first http://www.tombraider-customlevels.fsnet.co.uk Both of these sites are well laid out, informative and have just the right amount of Info there to make the access time painless...... whereas others are just too slow. I should add that a big hand should also go to Mike JJ http://jps.net/mikejj , without who , so many levels out there would not have been made, thanks to his excellent tools ------------------ I WAS PRESSING THE DARN WALK BUTTON !! Since I haven't, as yet got a site, and I cannot create my own levels, I would like to offer my opinions...1. when I'm in search of new levels I always check here first: http://www.tombraider-customlevels.fsnet.co.uk/ I like the way the site is layed out and things are easy to find. 2. sometimes, I go to... http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/ but not very often. In general though, I look for editing tools and such. In which case I search in this order... 1. http://paradox730.tripod.com/trtoolbox/id11.html I love the site, and even though the graphics slow me down, I'm there regularly. Besides, this guy knows everything (or darned near it!) 2. http://editor23.tripod.com/ An extremely helpful site, if Laura hasn't got it or a link to it then you probably don't really need it. 3. and I cannot forget to mention... http://www.geocities.com/trclothes/ without which I probably never would have gotten into the outfit making biz! Unfortanely for all, He's been having problems with the site and I can't get it up (yeah, I know, bad joke!). 4. when all else fails, I come back to here and someone is always willing to help or steer you in the right direction. NOTE: I have played quite a few levels (around twenty or so in two months), but as yet not reviewed any. This will soon change, so I can get one of those nifty reviewer awards (sorry, I can't remember who posted the thread) to put on my site when it's up! Lastly, I just want to say thanks to everyone that has a "modern" TombRaider site. Only a few months ago, all one could find was four+/- year old sites that were no longer updated or even active. It has really made a difference to those of us who are new to Tombraiding!!!!! ------------------ IF YOU NEVER GROW UP, YOU'LL NEVER GROW OLD!
