Firstly, I have no idea what an AutoCAD or a .DXF file may be—but I’m pretty sure I could find out about that and other things myself, provided that I can get the programme to work.

Now the point is that after I had downloaded STRPIX earlier this week, I opened the programme, and the interface did appear alright, but when I tried to load a wad, a major crash was the result.

Unfortunately, the download didn’t include a file remotely resembling a readme, and the author’s homepage seems to be inaccessible at the moment.

What’s the problem, then. Do I need “the latest VB runtime libraries”, some flash new .DLL file or anything of that sort? How am I supposed to find out about that?

you do need opengl32.dll, and glu32.dll.
which are not at all new and may be the prob. also if you didn't get a read me it's not a current version.
also I just checked turbo's site and it's working fine.

Thanks for your reply.

I am quite certain that I have the .DLL files you mentioned somewhere on my hard drive, though. Also, I downloaded STRPIX 3 which I think is the latest version? There was no readme in there. Finally, the link you gave won’t work. It only gives me that all-too-well-known “Yahoo Sorry we can’t find that page” page, even if I copy the URL into the address bar.

Update:

I’ve finally made it onto the index page of Turbo Pascal’s site, but don’t ask me how. I still don’t have access to the main page, but I could download Strpix3 from there (though it first said, “Forbidden”...), and I have to confess that it was the beta version of Strpix 3 that I had downloaded previously (from trww.com). So I do have a readme now, let’s see whether I can cope with it...

Thanks for the hint, PhotonElf.

Is it just me, or are is there really a growing number of websites accessible only via IE?

Oh, and incidentally...STRPIX does not work with ATI video cards, the readme says. I have an ATI video card. So much for this, then.

It opengl based, as Turbo has an older machine himself. what about temorarely disableing your card, or some featurs of it. you can also try this free software.

If you have an ATI card you might do what I do... I use the control panel to remove my ATI drivers. It then should fall back on the drivers that came with Windows (If you're using 98). StrPix works fine then. Of course you have to reinstall the drivers when your done. Yes, it's a hassle, but Turbo_Pascal can't seem to correct the situation...

Thanks for your help, you are all very supportive.

Nevertheless, I think I’ll refrain from experimenting with STRPIX until I get a new video card—there will be hassle enough anyway, now won’t it?

Incidentally, what video card would you cracks recommend? Voodoo? I was recently told that a Riva card would be the real thing. (Mind you, I’m not talking about prices here.)

I don't know if it makes a difference to you or not, but as far as I know, the folks that make VooDoo cards are out of business...

Maybe you pick one up cheap now??
