An acronym is something like the computer term WORM which stands for "Write Once Read Many". what he's saying is that an acronym is a way of abbreviating something, by using the first letter in each word to describe a phrase. example Laugh out loud = LOL -rob IP: Logged |

ok, let me see if I still remember this correctly....A processor socket is like a lamp, you can't screw a big lightbulb (processor) in a small lamp (socket). So that would mean that a Socket 7 processor wouldn't fit in a Socket 6 motherboard, thus controlling the type of processor you can place on your motherboard. This in term, descibes that a Pentium 4 processor won't fit on a Pentium 1 motherboard. phew.... ------------------ Tomb Raider - Ancient Legends levels (2), textures, tutorials, wallpapers and other TR goodies on driber.cjb.net quote: --- I try to help out 5 people for every piece of good advise I get --- [This message has been edited by Driber_IF (edited 05-21-2001).] IP: Logged |

well, I don't see if I can explain it better than that, but....well, if you have a P4 processor that's made to fit on a P4 Socket, you can't just place the P4 processor in a P1 Socket! ------------------ Tomb Raider - Ancient Legends levels (2), textures, tutorials, wallpapers and other TR goodies on driber.cjb.net quote: --- I try to help out 5 people for every piece of good advise I get --- IP: Logged |

Maybe I'm missing the point of the thread, but here goes...An acronym is a 'word' made up from the Initials (first letters) of a larger phrase... examples: MASH = Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. ROM = Read Only Memory. SCUBA = Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. CHiPs = California Highway Patrol. I hope this helps... ------------------ How can I be dead already? IP: Logged |
