OK all,
I've searched the forums and have not found it...

How can I export an object from a WAD, modify it in AutoCAD, and import it back into the WAD?

Thanks,
-MichaelB

Open strpix3 find the mesh, click file then select export dxf. Open rhino or your cad program. Edit save a dxf then in strpix select file then import dxf. But be sure your have the mesh # selected that you want to overwrite.

pwhirl,
I've tried that, but I seem to have a bit of a problem. Once I re-import the modified dxf back into the WAD, there's nothing there! Am I missing something or just...?

tommy tomb raider...

Are you using Rhino or another CAD type program?

Maybe I should submit another post with the settings for Rhino....??? Okay, that's what I'll do... Look for "Rhino settings"

Not much luck...

when I try to import the dxf file, I get an error message " 'ASHA' not valid integer value" I tried autocadv12, v13 and v14 dxf formats. I only have v14; is this bad?

Michael do you have a texture number assigned to a layer, for each and every group of polly's in your mesh.

this is essential.
you can check by choosing "select all", so that your entire mesh is highlighted green.
now under your edit dropdown menu select object properties. in the new dialogue box choose the second tab named "Info". this will give you a listing of each piece of your mesh. it should read to this effect:

on layer 1:texture_121
mesh 8 vertices 2 polygons
bounding box :(1.45238,63859.465467 to 1.58767,57638.47567)

on layer 2:flipped_46
mesh 32 vertices 8 polygons
bounding box ;(1485783.4767,476578 to 1.4758,4769.3758)

ect....

HEY!!!! I moved all the 3dfaces to the 'Fliped_1575' layer and it imported successfully!!!!

NOW it appears as though some of the faces are textured on the wrong side... any ideas?

I've run into this problem once or twice after rotating certain textures on a modified mesh. I'm not sure what causes this. I think it was cleared up one by loading in the original wad, then importing the new dxf again. another option is to go back into rhino, and use you rotate 2d tool to spin that polygon around.

good luck

The face is not radially symmetric, so that won't really do. besides, the texture is on the wrong SIDE; what good would rotating do?

by rotating I mean flip the poly so that the face is now on the outside instead of the inside. any other problems can be corrected by turning the control points on. and adjusting it to fit.
