I have just downloaded trwest and have made a small change to a wad but when I try to save it it crashes saying I have performed an illegal operation! Has any one got any ideas why it says this?

I haven't actually used it yet, but in previous posts from people with the same problem, the answer was to type the .WAS extension when you save the file.

Thanks for that, it worked, but when I placed an extra item in the wad and then built it, it showed up as Lara's bum! Any idea how to overcome this prob??

Again, in previous posts, the answer has been that usually a dependency is missing. Some meshes depend on others, and if the others are missing, guess what displays?
Not sure what the dependencies are, maybe a wad expert could give some advice. It might help to know what object you are replacing.

The item I was placing was simply a croc! But I have now overcome this problem by building and saving a new wad instead of just updating the city one. It now works fine, although I'm having trouble putting water in the level! All I added was a shallow pit 2 clicks high, but instead of wading, the screen goes funning and starts jumping from the floor the the sky?? Any ideas?

You don't have the necessary Lara animation in your wad. Most of the wads that came with the level editor had shortcomings in this respect, which is why Eidos has provided REVISED WADS to replace the faulty ones. So, in order to have all appropriate animations for wading, climbing, monkey swinging etc., go to the Eidos page > TR:C > Download > Other Media and get yourself these revised wads.
