Does anybody want some music converted into a TRLE formatted wav? I converted a pappa roach song today (blood brothers), and it came out to 7mb (with max winzip compression on). Pretty big, but it's a relatively long song! Anyway, if anybody wants me to do this, just tell me the name of the song, and I'll download the mp3 and convert it and then send it to you! Anybody???

On a similar note (no pun intended), I've been writing some original music for the game. It's all keyboard-based, but not General MIDI (I've got three sound modules working together, only one of which uses GM, so unless you have the exact same combo of instruments that I've got, it won't sound right as a MIDI file.)

So far, I've done a few reworkings of the traditional TR theme, along with some other generic "mood" music. I've also written an upbeat quasi-Egyptian tune to fit the mood of the existing WADs.

I can't post these since I don't have my own site, but if anybody's interested, I can send an MP3 via email. Or, since I see that a lot of people with their own TR sites are taking contributions of textures and clothing, perhaps someone out there will consider taking musical contributions as well.
Or maybe not.

The music files will definitely be more than a meg, which is why I doubt many people will want to put it on their sites. I suggested sending it as an MP3 rather than a WAV simply because MP3s tend to use less memory. The only other way to save memory would be to lower the sampling rate considerably, but then what's the point?

Anyway, if you still want me to send some sample pieces to you, I'd be more than happy to do so-- just let me know the correct the email address to use. (I probably won't be able to send anything until the weekend, what with work and all... but I promise to get it to you as soon as I can.)

I just looked at some of the music files I've recorded as WAVs... they average about 30 megabytes each! The longest piece is a whopping 45.5 megs at CD-Quality. I'll have to try to compress them somehow (maybe a zip file would help.)

I guess part of the problem is that most of my songs are about three and a half minutes long (great for really long fly-by sequences, but not much use for anything else.)

Anyway, until I manage to compress them into something a bit more reasonable, I don't want to clog your mailbox with these enormous files. Maybe I'll just have to send you some brief samples of the songs.
Either way, I'll be in touch.

Elpasodude,
Just curious... how are you saving your sound files? Or are they fairly short? I would love to get my WAV files down to under 800kb, but so far, it seems impossible. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm using Cakewalk Home Studio and Creative Labs Recorder to do my recordings, in case that makes any difference.
Thanks.

To answer all of your questions, wiredGIRL, i have no way of getting those songs (napster now has copyright blocks).

Oh, and driber, i have no idea of what the **** you are talking about.

David Troska, the song that I'm going to use as the into to my next level is about 15 seconds long and those 30 meg songs will go down if you put them into wonzip with "maximum compression".

that's ok elpa, I wan't talking to you
but just don't give people crappy advice as zipping a wav file, that's just whack!

David, compress the wav file into a mp3, that is the best compression out there right now!
if the mp3 you get is under 6mb, you can easaly send it to the e-mail address I sended you
