Just keep taking breaks when ideas dry up and you will be surprised when the ideas come flooding back.

All phenomena possess two natures
That which is revealed by correct perception
And that which is induced by deceptive perception.
The object of correct perception is ultimate reality.
The object of deceptive perception is conventional reality.

Although I am not a creator only a lowly player I would say first work out what kind of place you want the level to represent then work out a great starting point (a strong visual location for me is paramount), a great end point (another striking room/location with a stunning climax cutting to black, possibly swandiving off something, being surrounded by enemies all advancing on her at once, but no sliding down a ramp to nowhere it's been done to death), and a solid intricate busy central point with plenty to do, then you simply (or not so) fill in the spaces between!

Being a writer that's how I plan out my works, and similarly that's usually how they set out movies.

And put lots of secrets in as well, I loves me secrets

I have the same prob. I first start off with a **** load of ideas and they all come together... for the first ten minutes of game play, then I just get tired of working on the same level for so long. I also start to copy parts of levels from all ready exsisting levels from the trilogy... laim huh. But I found that like someone said before... just stop for a while... for me a few days and sudenly I can't wait to get going again. So I suggest you try that.

Hope I was of help...
