I tried this twice before, and so far got no information. I'll try again.
I am working on a simple mesh editing program (really I am). But the program will be pretty limited, since you can only edit the mesh. There will be no textures, since I don't have the texture mapping information. This also means you won't be able to delete vertices or faces, since it might mess up the mapping. It would be nice to be able to remap textures as you edit the mesh.
I know this information is available. Two people in particular have information about wad files, but so far have not shared this information. It would really help if we could work together sharing this information. It could help to create more tools, and possibly to help figure out even more information from the wad files.
I am asking those with wad information to please share it. We should all be working together so we can all benefit.

Hello,

I guess that you are talking about me,

I think that this forum is not the righ place to post a complete tutorial WAD file format,

I am a programmer not a writer, my english is not good enough to write a technical documentation, and doing that take some time that righ now i don't have.

I suggest to go to michels web site at:

[url]http://trwad.8m.com/[url]

There you can download his source code (in Visual Basic) so you can get the WAD file format.

Also you can look at "Trosetta Stone" document, this is our Tomb raider level specs bible. There you will learn about the mesh, anims, ranges, movables, static mesh etc, that are includedin WAd files. get it at:

http://www.trww.com/technics/docs.asp

After your have working your wad reader, then you can ask me again about especific things.

Good luck.

Turbo Pascal.

Thanks. I got the documentation. It doesn't cover TR4 yet.
As for whether this is the right place, I guess I never thought about it. It wasn't long after releasing the level editor that people were yelling for more wads. I know they really don't have time for that, but don't want to alienate the fans. So I figured if we can make our own wads, it keeps us happy, and doesn't use their time, so they can work on the next game. Everyone gets what they want and we are kept busy until the next TR game.
Oh well, a mesh editor can be useful for other things, too, not just TR.
Or maybe a whole game engine to go with it...
