recently all of my .dat files look like a notepad file and i dont know how to fix it, any ideas? does this matter? thanksnigel ------------------

What does a notepad file look like? You mean text?
What is creating your .dat files? What are they supposed to look like?

Damn!!! Never mind. You mean script.dat and english.dat.
OK, are you using easylife.bat or some other batch to create them? are the wrong files being copied?

im not using anything to create them except the script.bat and normally they are those windows lookin files that when you click on them it opens a menu and asks what you want to open it with, and now they look like a file with the notepad logo on it IP: Logged |

you have simply associated them to the note pad.
Go to browse the files and from the MENU chose: visualize, then option.
then "type of files" (I do not have an english version of Win, so try to understand)
Find the DAT extension and chose REMOVE, in order it is NOT associated anymore to the notepad, or BETTER, simply do this: click on MODIFY (or EDIT) then MODIFY again (or edit) and remove the line where it is said which program to load when you double-click on a DAT file.------------------

OK, I get it. The notepad icon displays next to the file.
On Win9x, go into My Computer. On the menu, select View->Folder Options. Click the File Types tab. Scroll down until you find a line that should say something like DAT file. Just hilight it and click the Remove button.
