i was looking at the trle dir and i found files like script.bk1 and english.bk2 do i need these files, i never saw them before.

Sounds like some files that got created when you installed some user level, so it wouldn't overwrite the original files. I'm sure you can delete them.

do not delete them: you probably have installed some custom levels with an installer: those file are simply backup copies of your previuos files, I think, and so they will be repristinate after the disinstallation.

You can easily rebuild your dat files in a few seconds. You don't need the backups. Unless the install replaced the .txt files.
You don't have any type of backup in the trle\script folder, do you?

I made a trle\backup directory. I put copies of all the dat files, .txt files, .tr4 files, and everything in the graphics\wads directory. I can get anything back without having to load the CD.
