When you convert a TOM file with the PC Level Converter, you see a couple a data and stats. One of them the Alloc File Buffer, is in my experience the one who sets a limit to my levels.Whenever the value exceeds 6 680 000, the game will crash - I have to do a cold reboot - when I load the TR4 file. This Alloc File Buffer does tend to grow quickly, certainly when you add things to your WAD file with TRwest. Animatings take an enourmous amount, but the biggest is Seth, if I ever would use him, I have to add a small extra level to my level, to avoid that I cannot make a resonable amount rooms (because of the excess) I am wondering if you have had the same problems?

I have had similar problems by exceeding the texture memory available...... also I had a problem once that turned out to be too many animating textures (not transparent ones).I think there is a limit to the volume of area you can use in a level too. Or most likely a combination of all of the things mentioned here. ------------------ I WAS PRESSING THE DARN WALK BUTTON !! IP: Logged |

I've got no real answers here but I thought I'd chime in because I've hit a point in my level (first one) where some of these affects are showing up. Do you really know its the level size that keeps the stats from displaying in level comipler? I've got this problem now...I've hit a point where when I active too many simultaneous animations (seen or unseen) the game drops to the desktop. If I reduce the number of objects, the number of animations increases, I'm positive on this much. However I'm nowhere near the stated 245 limit on objects (more like 223 now). The level is pretty big 100+ rooms and I didn't notice any problems until I started adding fliprooms. Don't know what all this means, but thought I'd add my 2 cents worth... IP: Logged |
