Hey look what I got today from Eidos Germany as thanks for the two levels of mine that went on their mags coverdisk!

Thanks Eidos Germany! Pity Eidos UK wasn`t so on the button. And thanks Michael Prager for nominating mine and other folks levels!

Oh that's cool! My older brother got something similar because his fan art got third place or something. He did an old fashioned colored pencil compilation of Lara and her "guns".

For info...

A while back Michael Prager was approached by Eidos Germany who wanted to include some fan levels on the cover disk of their mag. As far as I know they asked Michael to ask the permission of those creators whose levels he thought were worth including. Michael asked me and I suggested my two Menouthis levels. I think the mag is only available in Germany sadly. I have a copy and can`t read a word!

There`s levels from folks like Geckokid, Dhama,Michael Prager and a few others I can`t recall at the moment.

It would be nice if more of this kind of thing was done by Eidos or if Core and Eidos were to produce a fan level stand alone CD.

Nice to get something back though!

The CD is just a copy of the mags cover disk. Just your usual collection of junk really with the addition of the fan levels. Actually it`s a very nicely put together disk.

There should indeed be more of this. I read a while ago in the UK that PC Gaming or some such mag was going to do something similar but it never materialised. Why is the UK so lethargic in such things? The game is made here after all. You`d think Core and Eidos would have paid a little attention to what the fans are doing with the editor.

It`ll soon be the first anniversary of the editor. Wonder if Eidos will release any new wads or other updates.

I doubt it!

PC Gamer said something like that. I think they should do it. Britain is so "can't be bothered" with everything!

The UK still seems to have a twisted opinion that computers etc are for nerds!! It`s slowly changing though. Back in the 80`s when I was messing about with a Spectrum and later an Amiga I was sneered at as a nerd and a sad case with no life

Yet now that puters are popular it`s those same people who sneered at me that are now constantly asking for help with their PC`s that they know nothing about.

"Oooh Will how do I do this?" ..."Oooh Will how do you make it do that?"..."Ooh Will I can`t get my Internet to work?"..and so on...

I dunno. This is the Age of the Nerd!...lol

After all...Bill Gates! King Nerd!

Hey Will, I had the Amiga as well. I did order the spectrum before that when it first came out but after waiting 7 weeks and still no sign I cancelled the order and went and bought a commodore vic 20 and then moved on to the Commodore 64. I had a couple of books published for both machines called 'Winning games on the Vic-20' and ditto(C64). I've gotton all excited now think about the computer greats before the PC became a home computer. I even had a Commodore Pet would you believe.

Yeah Dhama those were the days!

Gawd! I remember Pong!

The C64 was better then the Speccy although the Speccy did have a built in tape drive (Wooooo..)

I also had an Atari console. The one that took cartridges. I forget it`s name now! Had games like Frogger and Pit Fall which was almost like TR in 2D!!

I loved the Amiga. Workbench was a great wee operating system that could have been way better than Windows if it had been allowed to evolve. But Big Bill killed `em all. I`ve tried to get emulators to work but never had any success. Pity. I`d love to play Future Wars again!

It`s amazing when you think about it. Back then if anyone had said to me.."In 2001 you`ll be designing your own levels of a game in a 3D environment with a female lead character" I`d have said..."Yeah right sure! Want another game of Wizball?"

The console was probably a 2600. They also did a more advanced 7800 console which could have rivalled the SNES and Megadrive but they never promoted it.
I collect old computers now and, at the last count, had about 25 excluding my small family of variously aged PC's. They include 2 spectrums, Commodore Vic 20, C64 and 2 amigas, a nearly complete collection of all things Atari plus several lesser known computers.
I still get them out for a little excercise now and then. Ah! Nostalgia.

It was brown if I remember rightly and had two black joysticks with a single fire button. It came with a game with two wee jets that shot each other and Asteroids! I think! I only ever really played Pit Fall on it! Wonder what happened to it? I think I chucked it out!

Folks,

I am only getting my package today as I was out for a few days and yes, indeed, I am all excited about it. THANKS EIDOS (Germany) for the surprise gifts!!

I am making the assumption that the package went out to every level author who sent me her/his mail address, so be patient Fabio and if you do not get anything any time soon, let me know and I can check with them.

HAPPY RAIDING!

the Atari 400 had a mylar keyboard (so kids couldn't get crumbs and paperclips in the keyboard) and a single cartridge slot [what is a hard drive?]; the 800 had a REAL keyboard and TWO CARTRIDGE SLOTS!! There was only one game that came with two cartriges; monkey wrench or something like that... for a bucket load of cash you could buy a tape drive, or if you were rich (gasp) a 5 1/4" FLOPPY DRIVE!!!! a few years later, Atari tried to upgrade its image with the 1200XL and a few others... and failed.

Remember the Apple IIe??!! How about the college lab full of those cute little Mac jobs; screen, floppy drive, and processor all in one little package!! We lined up for ours for our turn to use the darned things with their black and white screens...

My first job, I had an IBM 386 at MY OWN DESK!! My second job I got a 486 with a 33Mhz processor. The senior draftsman worked with AutoCAD on a 133!!!!! (She'll never need a faster computer! What a waste of money!) OOOOhhhh AAAAhhh!!! And THAT brings us up to 1994!!! Where have the good old days gone?

------------------
Darn that's the end!

Fabio, GeckoKid,

I am so sorry that this package apparently never went out to you. Distance does not seem to be the issue though, as Pytr (in the Netherlands) also did not get it (while Piega did??)

Unfortunately, I have no way of accessing Eidos Germany about that, other than writing them eMails (which I did several times by now but to no avail...). No clue, why they sent it out to some and not to others

Again, sorry, I've tried...

------------------
HAPPY RAIDING!
Michael.
