I'm highly confused... how do I get levers and switches to trigger a door opening? Please help ASAP.

first... make a trigger for the door in the square that the lever/switch...
and that make a trigger for the lever/switch itself but change the 'trigger' to 'switch'
(in the trigger edit box)

Yes. You have to trigger the switch itself using the 'switch' trigger type. On the same square use just a normal trigger to trigger a door.

Any number of seconds in the timer field of the SWITCH trigger will both close the door and reset the switch after that time.
