I have spent last six days making brand new textures for my level. Brushes, masks, sharpening, adjusting color tone, making it 3 dimensional, making them seamless, cutting and pasting, checking in the game... Why?There are over 300 custom levels now but if you play them you’ll soon discover the majority of them use textures extracted from previous games. The rule of thumb is to mix them together . No efforts to create new ones. Quick mix and next level is ready. And every level looks similar and familiar. Some even use textures which do not match the geographical location. Not to mention lately realesed Ruins of Maya – Peru location is textured with Agkor Wat sculpture textures!!! If you want your level to be outstanding ... keep it in mind. And even you are not the artist or you do not use any graphic programms – there are plenty of web sites offering free textures. Just type „textures ” and search...!

There is no problem in using old textures, only when you know what texture you need. I do.------------------

Nope, I did not. I am not pointing at anybody here with my finger ( Ruins of Maya only as an example, sorry). So don’t take it personally, Psiko (BTW, your TEP is great level.). I said ”majority of levels” not ”every level”. My point is to encourage to creativity those who prefer the easier way.

it doesnt matter about the location as long as the level looks good and IS good. i must admit looking at the same old textures gets boring but its the game play that does it for me

For my next level, I got Bullet Ridden Monkey to sort out a texture set. It was a mixture of old ones and ones he had made, then I mixed them with the School.tga. It worked kinda well (the level is set in Washington DC)------------------ Visit My Site! PLEASE! My top 10 Favorite Television and Movie Moments: 8. A great place to get textures, is to just get them from other games. Example: If you need textures for a house, hotel, warehouse or starship, a good place to look is www.thesimsresource.com They have lots of wall and floor textures for the game The Sims, and all you have to do is resize.I'm sure there are hundreds more texture websites out there, and I'm sure that you can make a level with completely new and interesting textures. However, the only type of textures that I can never seem to create or find is rock textures...so I can only use previous texture sets for those.

The time I took to make Tower Bridge 2 textures was probably about 30% of the overall project. Qudlatopec is right, and I think that textures make or break a level. I personally would like to see all custom level creators take time when assembling their texture set and use authentic textures wherever possible. Excellent work for those that do. ------------------
TOWER BRIDGE 2 OUT NOW!!!
