My first level "City of Blezqi Zatsaz" was a pleasure to build. I had a few problems, but I could manage them all and the level was complete in three months of work.

Well, now another three months have passed and my new level is about 50% complete. You know, I don´t have much time to deal with it. I´m a professional musician and I travel the world a lot... And to make things more complicated, this thing called Level Editor keeps coming with a new strange behavior every day! I had texture memory problems, so I had to delete and change things. All the planning I´ve made had to be changed. The level cannot be split because of the shape and position of the many connected rooms. Every time I add something, there´s another bug coming in and screwing the whole thing. So I have to step back and fix it. This is a waste of my time. I had to delete important objects, change rooms, for things to fit in the LIMITED memory of the engine! I cannot work this way and I´m begining to feel real tired! I´m a Virgo! And I´m proud to see my things Perfect! I can´t take mistakes! If you look at "City...", you won´t see a single texture problem, or a camera that does not work, a bad trigger, a misplaced object... Nothing is wrong. That´s because I had nights and nights without sleep, testing everything hundreds of times.
Now I´ve added a CD trigger and my level is crashing to desktop, I´ve extracted the trigger and the problem is still there! What the **** is going on? Bugs appear evety day and I just don´t know why. That´s because there´s not a visible and clear reason for these things to happen. They happen due to combinations of things, so we never know why!

So beside the lack of inspiration and the lack of time, this thing is putting me down with its anomalies! I´m tired!!!

Phabius, I feel the same way sometimes and I really hope that players of custom levels realise the lengthy work that goes into building them. One consolation is that I know your levels are going to be great and so do many others and i'm sure you will find a workaround to these problems.
Don't give up, the TR world needs great levels, without them we would all most certainly die.

Hey Fabio, come on, cheer up! We all know how difficult it is to go beyond a certain borderline of level building (well some at least do) and when you say you are half way there with your level it would be such a waste to not complete it. All your fans would be so disappointed

Why don't you take another quick break, maybe play a few other levels for inspiration and relaxation and then pick up the building work again with a fresh and constructive mind. Don't let the editor beat you!!!

See, if pink elephants can dance, then I am sure you can complete your work in due time

HAPPY RAIDING!
Michael.

Thanks Dhama and Michael!

Actually I´m going to take a break. I need it.

I´m a perfectionist. So I usually spend a lot of time in each room, each corner, each placed light... Just to make the level more visually interesting. I take more care with textures than the guys at Core themselves.
I just want the Editor to be more friendly, not an enemy. I hate when it comes with a stupid problem which I did not create! And its a random thing. That´s what makes me crazy. One day it´s ok, the next it´s not...

I don´t want to scratch my HD... I guess I´ll go back and play some custom levels, so Michael you will receive more reviews soon. I´ve played The Real Life of Tutankhamon and now I´m playing Diocletian Thermae. Both are cool levels... I´m having fun, at least...

hey Phabius, I understand you completely!
I too know what it's like to be a perfectionist and it sometimes gets to the point where you start thinking "why do I even bother, people will just walk through this room in 5 seconds, so why should I bother placing that 1 little lightbulb 1 square to the left?"
But in the end, it gets to me anyways and even after placing the level online for people to download, I made changes to it lots of times, I just want everything to be perfect.
And that isn't always possible due to limitations of the LE (look at my firechace sequence, that didn't end up as I wanted because of that damn 'can't overlap special triggers' error)

When I had some people over who came to play my second level, and I was hearing "oohhhs" and "aaahhhs" at the intro flyby I knew I succeded in making a good level.
So, after all that hard work, people will enjoy playing your levels and I think THAT is the thing that it makes it all worthwhile!

He Fabio, dont give up now. Take a small break. I know the crashes and problems are driving editors crazy with all the new things like twest, wad, stripix and so on. I am working for 7 months now on Lara and the last crusade and i just started building the last level of 3. It takes to much time and after these are done i am stopping forgood. Your an excellent levelbuilder and i know about sleepless nights!!! It pounds in my head about 1,5 our before i fall assleep. Good luck!!!

Thanks Rene!

I won´t give up. I´m addicted to this thing.
I just need to calm down a little.
But it scares me to think I´ll have to make another group of drastic changes to make it work Ok again! It will end becoming a very short level! All the planning I´ve made is being ruined...

But the look of the place is amazing!

I am a triple virgo...
And yes, I have had the same damned problems
killing days of work - it's annoying so you have to tread carefully when you build.
Basically we need CORE to tell us why
"EVIL ERROR" really happens and how to avoid it properly instead of the way we are guessing . It's stupid not to support this product.

Yes of course it´s extremely stupid not to support this product!
There´s not even a decent ocb chart!
The manual is fairly incomplete and sometimes wrong.
It´s trial and error all the time.
You never know when your near the limits, until you get there and need to go back and loose an entire week of work!
This is disgusting...

And we paid for it...

I too have had things explode for no reason - instant system reboots too!

Just a suggestion but how about getting a petition, or at least a list of interested parties together, and taking a united approach to core????

It may be enough to prompt some result

Maybe / maybe not - what've we got to lose????

Come on guy's lets not start bashing Eidos/Core just because they won't give you what you want. After all it was they who gave us TR in the first place.

Again, this editor wasnt ment for release and remember the last revelation is totally build with this editor so you can make a lot. I have to agree with the ocb things are not right sometimes. I bet core has another program simular to trwest to make all the wads. I had my problems with this editor believe me. But i beated them all just have several copies, test, test and test again. Delete, add, retexture, i did it all. 7 months now on building 2 levels. Am i crazy or not!!!

I´m not bashing Eidos/Core.
I´m just complaining about the lack of info.
It´s like throwing a Challenger spaceship to the hands of a fokker triplane pilot. We accepted to take the risks anyway.
I just would like to read things on the manual saying "be careful, the texture memory limit is..." or "The ocb settings for this object is..." or "if you add this thing, you´ll have to delete those..." Well I´m just becoming nuts here, I´ll calm down.

It was just a momemntary explosion of hate. I don´t know what to do with my project now. It´s too big to start over and to small to finish without the upcoming parts. THREE months of work. But I´ll find a way...

Ok, after a little break I tried to see what´s wrong.

I took an earlier prj version, which was tested before with no problems, output the WAD, and IT´S CRASHING TO DESKTOP!

It was ok before, it does not have the addons which probably caused the problem, so WHAT´s WRONG NOW?
