So witch level editor is the best: Unreal Or Half Life editor? What other games come with level editors?------------------

im not talking about tomb raider,other level editors. Tomb raider level editor is cool and fun,but not the best. I have a program were you can make your own charactors and than you can make moves for them and then you can use the character in your 3D game. The program comes with a level editor that is really HARD!------------------

I got it at EB for 60 bucks. Its called Game Programmer 4.0this is what comes with it:
Microsoft Visual C++ World Editor(the level editor) ShadowRealm(create a 3D model and use the model for your charactor in your game,make its moves) direct 7x but its not easy,its pretty hard. ------------------

The best level editor i've seen is UNREALED, the unreal/unreal tournament level editor.This editor is so much more versatile than the tomb raider editor. For instance ,you can build objects such as doors ,fences,beams,columns,pipes,stairs etc ,in the editor. Also there are masses of home built levels out there to download,some of which are amazing.
It comes with unreal and unreal tournament,which are both budget titles ,i can highly reccommend getting it, you'll be hooked. As for other editors there's loads,some i can think of are: Thief
Quake III
Deus Ex
Kingpin

UnrealEd is great. I have, however, seen EFRadiant (Elite Force) and DromEd (Thief).

I think the Unreal editor looks cool too! I am going to buy it. I have Unreal Tourment,but not the level editor.------------------

Hey, jackperkins,If you've got unreal tournament,you've got the level editor but probably not aware of it. Go to your unreal tournament folder,open it up and look for the folder that says system.
In there you should see an icon with a green U named "unrealed". Run it from here or create a shortcut to it on your desktop. Also make sure to get the latest patch '436' for unreal tournament 'cos this updates the editor also.
If you can't find unrealed in the game system folder ,you can find it on the game CD.

I only have the demo,thats why. I have played Unreal befor at my boarding school. I have finished some levels. I say the Unreal editor and when i clicked it wouldn't open. Im going to buy Unreal for my self since the one I played was a friends. I have been going to Unreal editor sites and noticed you can create your own players like lara croft. IS there a program that comes with Unreal edior that lets you make your own players or do you have to download it on the net?------------------

1. You mean Game Programming Starter Kit 4.0
2. The ShadowRealm editor is a shareware version, and you can't output characters into a useable format for the Genesis3D engine to use.
3. World Editor uses an extremely bad method of design, the TRLE is much better
4. The edition of Visual C++ included is not the full version, and you can't make .exe files with it.
5. Genesis 3D and the world editor are free from www.genesis3d.com
6. Visual c++ 6.0 Standard which does make .exe files is the same price as the kit, and you can find the rest for free
7. The Book Doesn't tell you how to make games, just the theory behind them
8. Direct X8 is available from http://msdn.microsoft.com
9. The version of Genesis 3D is now out of date
10. The version of ShadowRealm is now out of date. ------------------

If you don't mind me saying no cheap game kits are good. Professional game development engines range from £1000+, And even then you need to know VC++.------------------

well, I haven't really used it myself, but I know someone who's using it for a short while and already made his own level from scratch.
From what he told me it's much more easy to use than the TRLE.
