Hi all,

On behalf of TombRaiderChronicles.com I would like to ask you all to read the following and send your responses to: ed.portfolio@trchronicles.com

This is an important opportunity to contribute to the future of the Tomb Raider Level Editor.

WBM

-------------

To the TRLE community,

We have scheduled a meeting with Core Design in mid-September. Among other things on our agenda we aim to quiz the technical team responsible for releasing the Tomb Raider level editor on a number of issues which have been raised since it's release with Chronicles last year.

We would like to finalise our agenda to present to Core at our meeting and welcome constructive comments or questions you would like answered directly relating to the development of the level editor project.

Many of you have questioned the structural complexity, or lack thereof, of the level editor, for example, discovering FMV triggers spawning little else but wonder as to whether or not custom-created levels would be able to trigger movies from within game play.

On previous meetings, Adrian Smith (Producer at Core) has welcomed the news that the level editor has been met with an enthusiastic response from the community, and at that time, he saw no reason why additional releases to accompany the editor application could not be forthcoming.

This is an issue that we intend to raise and clarify when we meet again. It would appear that Core are eager to listen, and may be in a position to support the community with additional add-ons, media or even a revised level editor sporting more advanced options for the continued development of custom created levels.

Your comments and suggestions should be emailed to our site at the below address. We look forward to hearing your ideas and suggestions for the future development and support of the Tomb Raider Level Editor.

Regards,

ed.portfolio@trchronicles.com

Some .prj examples of aspects of games possibilities would certainly help the learning process.

Not whole levels just working little sub-levels that show how to do.......

The editor manual is not as good as it could be....

I'd happily contribute to / write a more detailed tutorial if only I understood stuff.

It would be very good to be able to add / replace wad items that aren't currently replaceable (meshes etc).

An AI editor would be good.

An explanation of fixing up sounds etc. when you merge wads - I found out almost by accident.

More wads / textures, and fixes for the known problems in currently available stuff.

thinking...... (that's that whirring noise)

As my ability to use the level editor (room editor) is severely restricted by my system, I can only; at this time, suggest a few things:

1. that a feature enabeling mesh exporting would be super as I am meeting with constant frustrations in regards to lighting with the tools currently available (i.e) import/export in 3ds format (which support "normals" in lighting).

2. A feature that allows the creating of .prj's from .tr4's,tr2's, .trc's, etc...

3. Thinking ahead, how about features that enable the creation of additional 'Next Gen' levels, outfits, etc...?

Having a personal Boss-Maker would be nice to have. I've always wanted something better than those pesky dogs and harpys. But what would be really nice would be to have the WADs of several Tomb Raider's combined to make a heck of a good WAD. Also, (sorry for sounding so greedy, but I've been spending a while thinking of what would improve the performance of my gameplay in TRLE)I'd love to be able to add songs or sounds from your own house or the internet to your own level if it is possible.

OK, I need some help here.

I tried to send an email. I got a message back that my IP address was blacklisted. I doubt it is my IP address specifically, since it is a dialup line and changes all the time. It must be my ISP, Qwest. I know they have had problems with spammers, and aren't quick to react to complaints. So it appears they have been blacklisted and I can't contact ed.portfolio@trchronicles.com

Could someone contact him and see if there is a way around this?

Dale. You would need to contact your ISP and report the problem. The Black hole project is a voluntary scheme which many IPS's are supporting in an attempt to reduce unsolicited email (spam) - It would appear users have abused your ISP's mail server which has thus resulted in your mail being rejected. Unfair as that may be for the masses, the only resolution would be to contact Qwest.

You may want to post your comments or suggestions to this thread on this occasion, and I will make note of them from here.

Who is Dale?

Anyway, I'm a spam fighter, so I know about the black holes. This is one I haven't heard of. Oh well, here it is.

The ability to make custom wads is pretty important. Building wads with only the objects you need, so that texture memory, etc. is reduced.

1) If we could have all the PRK files referenced by the WAS file, and the utility that builds them into a WAD file, that would be nice. That way we don't have to distribute those large WAD files. We could just distribute a script that builds the custom WAD file on the users machine. Of course, that might not be practical if the files take GB of disk space, so.....

2) Projects and wads for ALL the rest of the TR4 levels would be nice. And the Script and OCB settings for ALL the objects.

3) This one was more of a request NOT to do something, so I deleted it.

4) I don't suppose they would release the source code for WinRoomEdit, so I could fix some of the bugs and maybe make the PRJ file format a little more robust?

I ran into the same problem with my email to that address being "blacklisted." So, I'll note some things here in the hopes somebody will forward them...

1) Greatly simplify adding user created levels to the TRLE level roster -- or -- design a program that would manage user created levels. If this were done, I would happily try just about every level out there that people have done. Many look great, but the hassle of editing script files, copying others here and there, backing up original files etc, makes it nearly prohibitive.

2) We all want variety. Especially in objects available as well as baddies and Lara herself. Give us all the wads from TR1 to TR Chronicles

3) A more sophisticated AI that would enable greater control over "baddies" in the game, and the things they do. Patrolling, retreating, dissapearing, flipping switches, calling for help... the list could be endless.

4) how about the new moves from TR Chronicles?

5) a 3D object editor in real time... so we can paint a virtual statue and see the results of texture editing on the model as we do it.

6) New and exciting lighting affects: strobes, spinning lights, pulsating lights, etc.

7) Anything that would simplify the job of level creation yet at the same time allow greater variety would greatly enhance our creativity.

I guess that's it... at this point there has been much work outside of Eidos by very talented individuals in creation of programs to enable us to get a great deal more out of the editor than it was originally designed for. My best advice is take a general look at what's been posted here and see what sparks the most interest. In general, I think we all want to be completely able to create something as unique and original as each and every level for TR ever created, and perhaps create something even better

An all-in-one wad developing suite - with:
* Built-in CAD program
* Real-time animations editor
* Real-time texture editing
* AI behavior selection (animal, human, static, vehicle, etc - with selectable variables for each)
* Built-in cut scene creator ala '3D MovieMaker'

Level Converter 2.0 - reads objects in level, builds file using only those objects without user selection, automatically (all user specifies is the .prg to convert into the game, and the rest is done.) The user is then prompted with ingame level name, begining subtitles, etc.

I allready emailed this but I decided to post it here to

From BOB5

On the forum you asked us to post suggestions. I have a few.

For the most part the Level Editor we have is fine except the are some upgrades that would be nice.

The maximum amount of sound allowed in the audio folder 111 audio clips. It should be unlimited.

A tool which we could use to create our own baddy or animation, etc. It would let us
1. Create our own 3D figure.
2. Apply animation, add sounds.

Something to import other baddies from previous games - with sounds and animations.

AI Editor.

RAIN and SNOW

More lighting effects. Like the one in the base level in TRC.

Try to get rid of some room limits, texture limits, and object limits.

Allow us to create our own slots like "SHATTER 23" we make a new slot.

A project fixer.

Sample project files to teach us more tricks

A program that will fully automatically install a level - automatically add script, English, wads, everything.

Cutscene editors

This is what everyone really wants including ME.

Thanks!

Everything there is to know is written in the first message. Basically, if you have any ideas or suggestions this is a good time to let them be known as they will be discussed with Core Design at this meeting. Beyond that, the future is what you make it.. if you contribute now, your dreams may come true..

REQUESTS!:

#1..CutScene Editor...i.e. maybe even a starting scene. like in chronicles. ..endless possibilities.

#2..when you download a level from another user, that all the files would go into their right place.(i have yet to play anyone elses level b/c there is always one or two little things).

#3..a special EDIOS website that allows for all wads, textures and sample levels that can be downloaded with ease.

(.i thought you could make RAIN and SNow already?? well my mistake)

#4...an update to the tutorial. its good but in some places its hard to keep up to where he is trying to lead you. like combining blocks and rooms--this was a concept that toook me a while to master. thats all for now.,...

A TR3/TRC editor would be cool.

TR3 cuz it was in the pre-slutty era... and TRC cuz the lighting effects ROCKED
