Which DirectX version should I use for the 3D version from wadmerger? DirectX7 or 8? I think 8 is easier to do, but it will run very slow on old graphic cards. If you want to fnd out if you have drivers, download the DirectX 8 SDK (200 MB) and run some sample (or look at your graphic driver, maybe try updating it).IP: Logged |

DX 8 had some backward compatibility problems with previous versions of DX. This means some old software might not run.The only reason I might upgrade is if my video card requires it for upgraded drivers. Otherwise DX7 does everything you need.

I would say seven because I know a few people who have had some problems running games even new ones on DX8. By the way are you making a 3D TR2wad.------------------

I believe I can explain this.Use DX7 if you have an old video card (at least two years old approx). Use DX8 if you have a new video card (under 12 months old approx). Just make sure you have the latest video card drivers. The site where you download the video driver from should say if they are DX8 compliant or not.

That won't work Data. The software has to be written to use one of the interfaces - either DX7 or DX8. If you write to the DX8 interface, everyone will have to install DX8. Microsoft really has us over a barrel.

Just remember that some people won't be able to upgrade their device drivers to support DX8. The manufacturers sometimes only provide support on the newest devices. If you want to reach as many people as possible, you should stick with DX7 for now.
