Strange... ...I thought that a CD-ROM disc only had 800 MB (or something) as maximum...

The big size is caused by the costom wads and textures.

Bear in mind that some of the files on the CD are compressed.

They are expended to full size again during the installation.

Also your prj's are converted into playable levels which involves joining together copies of some of the source data
