Sad news, folks. My partner here at my studio took the LE working computer for a 3D video card extraction! Heīs the actual owner of the PIII 550 mHz machine I use for LE and his son wanted to play videogames on his home machine. We had to update the HD for a 40 MB one (for more audio recordibg capability), so he took the oportunity and extracted the 3D card for his son. The computer came back clean! Of course Iīve made backups of everything. I have another machine, a Pentium II 300 mHz with a Voodoo II card. Itīs possible to convert and play TR levels with it, but itīs impossible to work on the Editor. Itīs too slow! So now that I was being able to manage the problems with my new level, Iīll have to stop until I can BUY another more powerful computer. TOOOOOOO BAD!!! IP: Logged |

Be careful. My PC is now too fast for the editor. It`s workable but it was much better on my old PII 350 with a Voodoo3 than my new 1.2ghz Athlon with GeForce 2. One touch of the key and your room spins!! And there`s the problem with viewing textures with the Draw Doors function on.Just a wee warning... ------------------ Will Gell IP: Logged |

2 bad to hear that man but you say it's impossible to work with the LE on a P2 300? I'm on a P2 333 celeron with a voodoo3 and it all works fine here, isn't there some tweaking you can do on your system to make it run more smoothly?

I really donīt know why it happens. The PII 300 was the first computer I tried the Editor with. It never worked there. It can take two days to rotate a room with textures and draw doors on. Hereīs the config:Pentium II 300 mHz 64 MB RAM 4 GB Hard Disk (with about 200 MB of free space) Voodoo II 8 MB video card Windows 95 Iīll try to format the hard disk and install everything again, from scratch, as soon as I make the backup for the important things in there. It has many stupid bugs beside this one I want to get rid of. Maybe it gets better. Many times Iīve heard about slower computers running TRLE with no problems... I must run on mine! PS: My partner used to love TR. He even completed TRI and TRII, before we were business partners in the recording studio. But now he seems to "hate it", he says I should use the equipment only for "serious" things. Ok, Iīm kidding, he does not hate it, he just canīt see me working on the Editor because I think heīs jealous. He does not have a brain for technology, and Iīm the responsible for all the tech stuff in the studio. Heīs the "executive" part of it. Anyway he could have left the dmnd video card installed! Well I hope his son continues to love TR (because he does love it) and begins playing it all night long, get addicted as I am, and my partner will have to live with it in his own home! He He! Adding RAM will help to. I've got 256 MB and when I started windows there is only 156 MB free. Stupid windows (windows 98SE) takes 100 MB for just starting (and loading the antivirus)!IP: Logged |

I don't think that will be the problem, I know winblows sucks, but 100 mb just to load it? I used to have 32 mb and it worked fine, I could have windows, antivirus, dreamweaver, photoshop and some other program running without any problems it's just a matter of tweaking your system, I'll bet that with some tricks, you could have windows loaded only taking up about 10-20 mb [This message has been edited by Driber_IF (edited 09-30-2001).] IP: Logged |

I don't understand it too why windows takes so much. Maybe the program I use to view the used memory size is bad. But I used the level editor on a P133 pc and I could use it (not as fast as on my 800 mhz pc). Only rotation with the draw doors button was slow.IP: Logged |

Thereīs another problem with the "weak" Pentium II computer besides the slow behavior. All black portions of textures appear transparent in the 3D window. So the image is horrible, with all those "holes" everywhere. The white background appears through the "holes". If at least the background was inversed with the flipmap black one... And, I tried to install LE again in the Pentium III (now without the 3D card). It has asimple 8 MB video card now. The Editor works normally, the 3D window is not as beautiful as before, but not that bad. But in game the situation is terrible, with a slow frame rate and a darker and lifeless image. So, itīs possible to edit levels there, but itīs terrible to play them. IP: Logged |

I playd TR4 (full game) on a P133 with 6MB voodoo rush card and it worked (except the movies) without a very low framerate. Check your display settings and make sure you aren't using software mode. Also check your DirectX settings if hardware accleration (if I spell it correctly) is enabledIP: Logged |
