It would be nice if all forum members got together to produce a single level.

It would be constructed as a purely exploration level, only each room would be created by a different forum member.

Each room would be no larger than 10x10 tiles and no higher than 12 clicks, and would be connected to other rooms with a single tiled 4 click room.

I will start the first room and then email the project file to the next member on this thread. He/she will then construct their room and when finished, will email it on to the next member on this thread and so on.

If you would like to take part in constructing rooms, then please post now. The next member who posts will create the second room and then the member who posts after him/her will then create the third room and so on.

Once all rooms have been constructed, the texturing can take place. I will post details after the rooms have been completed.

I believe we should aim for around 20-30 rooms depending how much interest this generates.

Each room can be of any design and can have a puzzle or can just be for looking at. The idea is simply for anyone to take part, even if the have limited TRLE knowledge.

Start posting your names if you are interested in this project, and if you can remember, please do not post your sigs as it will speed up page loading time.

Thank you

Data.

I suppose I could give it a shot.
But we should set down the rules up front.

Is it only 1 room per person? What if you want water in your room or something?
What about stacked rooms? Will we only be building horizontally connected rooms? If we have stacked rooms and use a floor door to connect, will it also be 4 clicks high?

Should we place objects in the rooms? Puzzles, baddies, etc? Sounds? Cameras? Or just the room, and do the rest later?

Are we making a playable level, or just something that we all shared in?

A very good point Mr Aktrekker, The main principle of the level is to use one room only. Stacked rooms (rooms on top of each other) are acceptable but perhaps no more than 3 stacked rooms, however it will count as one room.
Yes you can have a puzzle, however, since we can only use one wad, I suggest it be a simple wad like Tut1.wad.

{........Are we making a playable level, or just something that we all shared in?}

Both. It is a way to get the whole TRLE community to work together.

If anyone has any more ideas, they are all welcome.

One last point, the initial design will not contain a wad or textures until all the rooms are complete.

A different outfit would require a custom wad everyone would have to download. Why not just keep it all standard stuff?

This is actually a good idea. Remember that game where one person starts telling a story, then the next person takes over? Kind of like that. Nobody knows what is coming until you get the project. Each room done can be inspiration for the next.

This sounds interesting and I'd like to take part.

I do have a some suggestions. How about we have a texture file that gets passed to the next person as well? Each person can either use the textures in the file or add textures that they'd need/want and pass it on. Personally I like to texture as I build so that I know it'll look like I want it too. There have been times that I have changed either the texture or the angle of the floor/ceiling so it looks right. As for the wad, I suggest we pick one from the start or do a custom one. It would greatly aid in deciding what the room should be and look like if we knew what objects we'd have.

I bet you will, XETH, but have you not been one of those Level Builders who only built for themselves and do not care about what others think about the level (oh no, sorry, that was Tijay, right?).

Anyway, while I am also a true disbeliever in those projects involving many people (because I never saw any result coming out of these as yet), this nice concept thought out by Tina has its charms and could really work. So, yes count me in for Room #13 or so (if I counted right)

HAPPY RAIDING!

We appear to have 18 members so far, and they are (in order of posting):

Data
WBM
Trlestuff
Verious
Aktrekker
BRM
Tommy tomb raider
Djtch7
Sage of time
Jeffrey van oort
Geckokid
Zaher001
True raider
Netslider
Kingspyder
Al-collet
Michael P
Xeth

I believe at least two more members are required.

To keep this as simple as possible, each person will create a room (stacking is allowed up to three rooms)

Each room will be connected to the next room via a one tile 4 click room.

All 20 levels will be completed one by one by each member in turn (see list) and then sent on via email to the next member. When the last member has completed a room, then the whole project will return to me, at which time we will then work out how the texturing will be done.

Please understand that in order for this project to work, it must be kept simple. So if you do not wish to follow the guidelines above, please say so and I will remove your name.

I will post in a new thread as soon as we have at least twenty members.

Data.

Sounds fun, I'm in, but I'd like to know what this level will be like, i.e where is it located. I mean it be too stupid to have Lara in a tomb, and step outside into a city.
