Before you read this, if you make a train level following this advice and release it, pleez make sure u credit pwhirl and erm....a little bit to me
Cause I did figure out SOME things, but couldn't without the help of pwhirl. If not...there WILL be trouble! heeh
Anywaz here we go, pay attention class!----------
To create a train level you obviously need the train wad, you also need a bit of script which you add to the script.txt:
[Level]
UVrotate= 11
Layer1= 192,160,192,-16
LensFlare= 225792,-1600000,588544,255,255,255
Fog= 210,176,99
LoadCamera= 20275,-1026,52658,18424,-2381,52700,1
Name= Desert Railroad
Horizon= ENABLED
Train= ENABLED
Level= DATA\train,106
You wont need to change anyhting in the english.txt. 106 is the music track, but it doesn't come with the editor so you may need to get it off the TR:LR disc or download it from somewhere.
Now then, the level itself:
You will need a tga file, with the first six textures in the file being the tracks and the ground in a certain order. If you use the original desert railroad .tga, the textures should be in the right place. All you need to do now is set the animation range including all those 6 textures. This will make the rails look like they are moving backwards with the train as well as the ground next to the rails. I would post screenshots if I could actually take them!
Now create a room, with nothing in it, and post in it the first 6 textures. This will make them animate in the level. You will never see this room in the level and make sure it is in the top left corner to avoid causing trouble.
Now for the actual train. Level "0" is death level. If lara steps on any point that is at level 0 she will die. So create a room three blocks wide, and raise it so the floor is at level 4. (it doesnt really matter as long as it is above 0, at this level is the bottom of a carriage and it looks about the right height) Select the whole floor and click floor +1 to make a one click thick floor. (this is just a test to show you how to get it to work) Now make another room three blocks wide (three blocks is the width of the tracks). MAke the floor at 0 and the ceiling at 4. Make sure you connect a door somewhere between this room and the other so lara can fall through and die
. Put this room directly below the other so together they are still 3 blocks wide. Texture all the parts not part of the carriage itself with the black transparent colour so you can see out. Place Lara on the carriage and make sure the carriage is textured. Now move the rooms together to approximatrly the middle of the editor window. (this is very important because there is only one line where it will work. It may be a case of trial and error.) Output the wad and convert and play. If the rooms are in the right place, the carrige will look like it is moving along the tracks in the right place. If the rooms aren't in the right place in the editor window the you will see it looks strange in game. Eventually you will have it in the right place and it will look like it's moving along the tracks with the hills moving at the sides. There we go...that's how you make a train level
If the texture animation has been done properly and the rail and ground textures (6 of them) are in the first 6 slots in the .tga, you will see the rails moving on the ground. It will be obvious how to expand the level adding rooms in the right places now. If you have any more problems please feel free to ask here or e-mail me.
