I was just getting ready to start a new topic. Guess I was a little late.OK, currently reported problems are: 1) Sloped blocks that cross each other are see-thru. This is a limitation of the LE. But it is possible the slopes are wrong, I can't believe the level was designed with that in it. 2) Corners of ceiling blocks are wrong. I just made a change to this to fix a problem I saw in TR4 levels. If it is wrong for other games, there must be a difference. I need to know which versions have the problem. Obviously TR3 does, but what about TR1/2? 3) Walls that look like doors? Sage pointed out in the TR3 house level, next to the fireplace, the walls look like doors. I fixed a problem like this for TR1, but the same fix might be required for TR2/3. Any other problems? I really want to get the room geometry perfected so I can move on. I'm thinking of adding code to output the WAD file, if I can figure out the textures. Nobody has been willing to help me with the data formats so far, so I've been mostly on my own. I already am finishing a sounds.txt file that will build for all TR4 levels. I want to be able to open the TR file and create a PRJ, TGA, and all wad files. I think an all-in-one program would be great! But maybe textures should be next.

I think you're doing an excellent jobI'm willing to help if I can. I can program (rusty though) in C, C++, Pascal & ASM. I've also written some stuff to 'reverse' database structures and export information to be imported into other programs. If you want to email / MSN chat I'll do what I can to assist. ------------------ Conan the Barbarian email: conanthebarbarian@ntlworld.com a.k.a. Ted Swippet email:tswippet@hotmail.com IP: Logged |

I thought I could go on with my level ( it was a tr3 level [HI vagrant] and )I had proprems that in my fiew couln'd be solved so I thought I can convert the prj adn textures.... but id doesn't work! OK I want to be true..the vagrant helped me in this time and he did something, what I can also do ...today, but in this time he did it -he change the walls...and the whole level how can I explain.... here are some acreenys maybe If you see, you know what I mean...
Maybe there is a way to fix it, that the LE can read my prj file This would really help!!! Thank you- FIPS KROFT [This message has been edited by Fips (edited 11-10-2001).] IP: Logged |

I'm not sure of the problem here. Let me make sure I understand. 1) You were making a TR3 level. Were you trying to create the TR3 level using the LE? 2) Something happened to the level you were making, and now the LE won't load it. 3) The project is corrupted, and you are wondering if TR2Prj can extract the project from the last TR4 file you built.Am I right? If so, you could try my project fixer program. It might be able to fix the project so it will load.

I got the TR2 file and checked it out. I don't know what editor you used, but SHAME ON YOU!!! There are several rooms bigger than 20 blocks. Don't you know you aren't supposed to do that? No wonder you are having problems. If you use TR2Prj to output the project, it will create it. If you run the project thru TRFix, it will delete the rooms that are too big. Then you can load it with LE. But you won't have textures because I don't do them yet. It is on the list of things to do.And I don't do objects except for TR4.

TReditor levels aren't the same. You can have more then 5 textures on the same wall sector, and the eidos editor doesn't support that. Also if you have edited it with RView and imported dxf the format is differend.I've found some problems: - TR5 has 1000 of bugs in it with the doors. - The Lara's Home level looks very bad on some wall sectors. One other problem that might not have been mentioned: When there is dome in the level the ceiling gets all uneven and you can see the breaks in it! It's really ugly!

Brad, that appears to only be a problem in TR3. Apparently they did something different. I'm working on a fix. TR1/2/4 all look OK as far as I know.

OK, first, I fixed a couple of more bugs. The problems with wall blocks not being walls was also in TR2. Sometimes blocks looked like they were a door in the floor or ceiling. Actually they were, but if the block in the room above or below was a wall block, I wasn't handling it right. Still not sure about sloped corners on ceilings in TR3. I checked TR1/2/4 and they look OK. I need a TR3 file to check (hint hint), and a room number and block X/Y that is wrong. Fips - the large rooms could be split. But it would have to be done manually. It would take alot of work, but it could be done. Then it could be loaded. Michiel - yes, TR5 looks pretty bad. The doors are the way they are in the TRC file. I think TRC had a much more advanced engine. There are some rooms that are ZERO clicks tall, some with multiple doors in and out. I think they act as some sort of switching method, or teleport. For now, I'm concentrating on TR1-4. It may be impossible to accurately convert TRC levels without editing them. Blocking decompiling of levels. Hmmm. Not sure how you could do that. We would have to put some kind of custom data into the TR file. There would have to be a way to put it there, and utilities we write would have to honor it. And we would have to make sure it doesn't interfere with normal play. I thought the TR community was about sharing. Of course some things take alot of work. But writing tools like TRViewer, TR2Wad, Strpix, and others also takes alot of work. But they are shared for free. I suppose this subject is better left to another topic. Starting on textures now. We'll see how it goes. I have to remap the textures, so I'll be forced to create a TGA file at the same time, so I know where the tiles are. Just an extra bonus.

Finished the code to remap the textures. Now I have to use the rectangles and triangles in the mesh, and match them to the different sections of the blocks in the room. Before I can do that, I have to create some test projects to make sure I can handle rotated textures right. But I had to take time out to play my 5-level version of TR3, and watch AJ again.

Sorry, I'm making progress, but it's slow. Been having problems with the computer, it takes me hours to get it to boot. Problem on the motherboard. Never buy ABIT, they use substandard and out-of-spec parts, and they won't admit there is a problem. But I am getting some textures to display. Just have to get the rest. By tomorrow, I should have all rectangles. Then I just have to add triangles and it's done.

Took me 6 hours to get booted today. Looks like I'll have to take a solder iron to the MB tomorrow. Time to get this fixed.
