Searched the forum already under sound, even came across my old user name (Ocasious)...lol
But what I want to do is use the cricket loop in my level, and the crow if there is one, but my problem is that my wad is a custom wad and therefore I dont know how to find out the associated letter as explained in the manual, and the other is I dont know which wad the cricket or crow loop is in.
And last is how to put into my level. Is it just a copy/paste kinda thing? or whats up?
And where are they?....Thanks

Where can and do you find out your custom wads associated letter? Every level has a letter assigned to it, so when you make a custom wad it has to be assigned a letter also or the sounds wouldnt work right?
So where can you find out your custom wads assigned letter?

thanks for finding it for me, now how do you add it to your level? Its going to come back to knowing the associate leter for your custom wad, but nobody seems to know how to find this out or how to assign one or something. But im not giving up. I want the cricket sound in my level but I want to use it through the effects menu and not just add it to my audio folder and triger it. it has to be reoccuring like the waterfall loop or the water fountain loop, and only the efects menu can give you this type of effect. Can you help?

Well I have not gained any ground but I guess your associate letter for a custom wad would be the same as the level you replaced in your english file. In my case that would be the desert railroad slot. Anybody know the associate letter for desert railroad?
I tried just adding the cricket slot to the sounds text file and replacing a sound from my wads sam file but that didnt work. Then I tried the same but adding associate letter #g, and that didnt work either. I also tried it with all letter types that are to the right of push block end since it seemed to have a lot of letters to the right, but that didnt work either, so I dont know guys but im not giving up yet. I need some help with figuring this out. Is there nobody interested in this? It could open a lot of doors for us. You could have a reoccuring looping sound anywhere in your level with out using a trigger, and if you left the room and came back it would still be active once you got near the sound icon. Just like the water fall loop or the fountain loop.
Come on I know somebody has at least played with this.....whats up?

Do you know how to the run the pcwadsfx.exe in dos to rebuild your wad sfx file?
I was having trouble putting the flooding water sound in my wad until i found out how to do this and it solved it.
I'm not sure if it will solve your problem but try this:

Open the dos prompt on the start menu.
Regardless of what is displayed in the box, type in the following:

cd..

and then hit return

keep typing in cd.. and hitting return until you have the following prompt:

C:/>

At this prompt type in, dir and hit return

This gives you a directory of the root of your hard drive.

Follow the following commands ,hitting return after each to get you to the pcwadsfx.exe.

cd progra~1

dir

cd corede~1

dir

cd trle

dir

cd sound

dir

cd levels~1

dir

pcwadsfx.exe yourwad d sounds.txt

hit return again after the above command.

replace 'yourwad' with whatever your wad is called and this will generate two new files in the sounds.level sfx creator folder.

example: karnak
karnak.sfx

cut and paste these into your graphics/wads folder overwriting those already there and rebuild your wad .
If all has gone well your new sounds will be added to your wad provided of course the associated letter of your wad was added to the sound .txt, which i see you have already done.
There is an explanation of this procedure on page 95 of the manual ,but it's not that great, but have a look anyway .

If you want your sound to always be in the wad, use the letter g.
Oh, and you can makeup your own letters and combinations for your wad, then add them to whatever sounds you want in your wad. The letters are not hard-coded in any program.

I need more info on the associated letter stuff, because no I have not found or added a letter to anything, I restored my files back to normal untill I get somebody else to work on this with me. And I tried using the letter #g and that didnt work. There is no way to add a sound to your effects menu with out knowing the associated letter. Aktrekker
maybe you could send me a help file via email
about what you wrote here...thanks

You want to add a new sound to the effects list? I guess I didn't understand.
You can't do that. There are 370 sound slots in the game. That can't change, it is hardcoded. You will have to replace another sound with your own. Pick one you won't use. The sound slot name is first on the line. After that is the filename(s). Change them to your filename.
Now how do you know which number to use in your flipeffect? I happen to have a list of sounds and their numbers. If you want it, email me.

If I email you, Outlook will get the attachment wrong, it always does. Email me, and I'll reply, then the attachment will work.

if I put a sound flipeffect trigger, and I don't have the sound in my wad, but it is for example 250 and it exists in the sound folder, does le level will crash? I mean: is it ALWAYS necessary for a soundflipeffect to have the sound listed in the wad?

I think if the sound doesn't exist in the wad that the game will crash.
