I have begun making a new level and its looking good so far. There is one room where I have 20 lights. Today i decided it would look better if I added 2 more (spot) lights. Saved the PRJ,and output wad and tested it. As soon as I enter the room where I added 2 new lights(22 intotal) the editor crashes back to the windows desktop. Went and removed the 2 new lights and tested it again, and it was fine. So I added the 2 new lights back, and again the editor is crashing back to the desktop. I know there is a limit to how many lights you can put in a room, but I have not exceeded this limit with 22 lights and I have seen no warnings or error windows either so what is happening? Like I said im only talking about 22 lights and no objects at all. Can somebody touch this?IP: Logged |

Hi DrasticGraphics,In this particular room, 22 lights is too much. The memory limit for each room is dictated by: 1) Textures (particularly animated textures) 2) Objects (particularly animated objects) 3) Size of room 4) Complexity of room (number of vertices) 5) Lights The solution is to split the room into smaller rooms joined by doorways (looks the same to the player, but as far as the editor is concerned, uses less memory). you know what, you might be right, because in this room there is water, but no objects and only 3 types of textures, but since you put it like that then I guess it could be possible. And i wouldnt get a warning for this type of limit?IP: Logged |

NO,NO,NO. I have to take that back, this cant be the problem, because I have just finished texturing a room which has no obcets, and only 3 diffrent types of textures are being used. And in this room there is no water, and the light limit is 20. I dont get a warning about lights, but as soon as I exceed 20 and go and test the level the game crashes back to the desktop. If I go and delete lights so that there are 20 or less then everything is fine. How N the **** can this be? Whats up with this thing. Im never gonna be able to finish a level looks like. IP: Logged |

Do you have fog or flame emitters anywhere in the level? Are any of the lights spotlights (they take more power to run)? How big is the room?IP: Logged |

I think triangle textures have to play a part in this situation, because when I put more than 20 lights in another room in the same level it was fine. But the diffrence in the two rooms was that one has triangles textures on the ceiling (dome like) and the other was flat. And in the flat room I didnt have a problem with putting more than 20 lights.....its weird and needs to be uncovered more, but I guess I will have to learn what other things causes it and try to work around it. Good luck to anybody else who runs accross this oneIP: Logged |
