Hi

I am a newbie to the TRE program, and so far seem to have understood most the basic operations.

However I am struggling to understand objects and triggers. I tried to place baddies, etc and set the triggers but in gameplay all I get is a strange looking image where the baddies (objects) should be placed.

I did locate the objects on the map and then selected the trigger away from the object but no luck. I would appriciate any specfic tips or links to a website with more detailed information.

I know this question might seem very simple but as a newbie I appriciate any help and advice.

Regards

Michael

first of all Welcome to the forum
as for your object problem it sounds like it's something to do with the wad. when you export it from the room editor are you using the same tom file name? eg. if your are using the tut1 wad are your exporting your level as tut1.tom? if not then that is what's wrong.
Hope this helps.

Hi mic2020,

Welcome to the party!

Although this doesn't answer your question, I hope you find this info useful:

Avoid using custom wads and custom tools to begin with. It's easiest to learn TRLE by going through the tutorial in the manual. Once you've mastered the tutorial and built some test levels using the "Tut1" wad, you can then expand out into other wads and eventually, when you know you are ready, you can then start customising content.

Although I have learnt how to use the custom tools (so that I know what is possible), I prefer to have my work running completely smoothly without the use of them. That way I know that any bugs I encounter are not third party, but something that I am doing (i.e. bad geometry, too many objects etc).

Once I have completed a level, I then go back through it and customise it. Any bugs that appear at this point indicate a problem with the customisation process which makes it easier for me to identify and fix any problems.

Good luck.

WBM
