As one of the greatest level designers out there, and in the spirit of the season, I felt it appropriate to share some of my level designing secrets with you kids. Remember, you heard them here first!1. Slopes: It is possible to make your landscapes have slopes! That's right... just click on a square until you see a red arrow, then raise or lower the square and you've got a slope! Pretty cool, eh?
2. Multiple Rooms: Some of my finest levels consist of more than one room. It's a little known fact, but you can join rooms together through the use of doors. There's a ton of advantages to doing this, such as....
3. Ledges: Yep, by using multiple rooms, you can make ledges! Just stack one room on top of another, cut out a hole for the floor, and there you have it, a perfectly grabbable ledge for Ms. Croft.
4. Populating your world: If you want to make really advanced levels, try this neat trick-- select a baddie from your object list, place it somewhere in your map, and then create a trigger for that baddie. When Lara steps on the trigger, the baddie will appear! Awesome.
5. Textures: This makes all the difference in the world. If you don't texture your world, Lara will run around in total darkness. Pretty cool for a while, but a bit disconcerting. So what's the secret? Load up a TGA texture file and apply those textures to your world! Using this mindnumbing secret, you can make your worlds look like anything you want (provided you have the appropriate textures at your disposal.)
Okay, that ought to be enough to get you kiddies started. If you need anymore spellbinding tips from the master, don't be afraid to ask.
