OK: This is what I want to happen:•Switch opens a timed door. •Inside that timed door is a switch that opens another timed door. •Inside THAT door is another switch that opens the last timed door. I want each door to be timed for 5 seconds. How do I do this? I have all the doors placed, and the triggers for opening them assigned, but how do I put in the timed part? Oh, and incase you are wondering, this has to do with: ------------------ TOMB RAIDER: THE CHIHOLTOPEC IDOL The year is 1997, and Lara is off on another adventure! This time, she is going deep into the jungles and foothills of Central America. Finding a cave entrence, she eagerly steps into the gloom. But the ground beneath her breaks apart, and she is sent tumbling down into the mountain side... Unknown to her, she has stumbled upon the shrine of Chiholtopec, an ancient Maya god. The reclaiming of his idol from the buried temple will allow it's bearer to rule the gift of unhindered sight. That is, if they can't pass the three tests of this god... But of course, Lara is not the only one who wants the idol... Expect the first level to come out near February! Thanx Lara Croft 2001 UK for image IP: Logged |

When I do that, I get an error message that say: "You cannot overlap special triggers". Did I do something wrong? The doors, by the way, open with a switch. Does that interfear with it? Please help me! This puzzle is really important!IP: Logged |

A special trigger is any trigger that is set to anything other than the default trigger settings (i.e., a number in the timer, trigger type set to heavy, antitrigger, etc.). Since you have to set a special trigger under your lever ("switch for lever_*"), you can't put a trigger for a timed door on the same square. You could possibly also have the lever enable a TRIGGER_TRIGGERER, but it won't have the same effect. The manual (the great, informative, comprehensive manual) says that not being able to stack special triggers can come in handy later on (see page 41, heading Trigger: Special Pickup Trigger, towards the end of the paragraph: quote: ...you cannot overlap special triggers. (This rule can be used to your advantage sometimes, but more on that when the time comes!)
but I don't see how limiting your options can ever work to your advantage... Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I really hate the special trigger issue...IP: Logged |

the thought behind the "advantage" is that if you make 1 special trigger, all other triggers applied to the same square will inherit the special trigger's settings for instance, when you make 1 special trigger with a 5 seconds timer, all other triggers applied to that square automaticly get the 5 seconds timer also I have never used this before though and I find it more a disadvantage than an advantage, but in some cases it could be useful IP: Logged |
