I finally figured out how to connect levels!! So sorry, Justin, Piega, and everyone else who assumed I knew more about levels than I did... I thought that a level's number (the manual is not real clear on this) was an integral number imbedded deep inside the WAD, and that you had to find out your WAD's number (or make it by adding to/deleting from an official WAD) before you could use it in order. So I thought it was only possible to have six levels in a row (only six official WADs) and spent literally hours making and remaking WADs until I was sick of it. But today I was trying to rearrange my last two (of three) levels so that I could patch together an okay game from three levels instead of four, and I switched the Script.TXT entries for L2 and L3. But (using my line of reasoning) I also switched the finish triggers. I triggered Lara to jump from L1 to "L3" (the level based on the Tomb of Seth WAD, which was actually L2, because it was now in Slot_2 in Script.TXT). So when I finished L1, it sent me to the old L2 - the level in Slot_3! Finally it hit me: a level's number is not an integral number hidden deep in DEFAULT_SPRITES or LARA_START_POS - it's simply the number of the Script.TXT in which you've placed it! This is so cool! My level just got saved completely and now I can have not three (a trio of patched together levels which currently work under the "hidden number" system), nor six (my original plan, because I couldn't go back to levels using the HN system), but FOUR!!! This is the best day of my life!!!!!!IP: Logged |

Thanks Tomb_Raider_Nut! I just had it in my head that there was a number hidden in the WAD, and I tried to incorporate that into the Script.TXT number idea and so of course it didn't work. My fault entirely, not yours. Thanks again for your help!IP: Logged |

Yes, it is. But I didn't put it all together until last night when I studied everything out and made a fortuitous mistake and realized the truth (i.e., that the "level number" was the order of the level in the Script.TXT and not a number assigned to the WAD which always stuck with it no matter what Script slot it was in; nobody actually came out and said that in so many words). Thank you again for your help...IP: Logged |
