From: http://www.itpapers.com/cgi/PSummaryIT.pl?paperid=23336&scid=908 September 4th, 2001 "Kaspersky Labs, an international data-security software developer, announces the detection of the Internet worm "Lara": the first malicious program that spreads in Desktop Themes files. At the moment, Kaspersky Labs has received two reports of infections by this worm. Lara spreads exclusively via Internet Relay Chat (IRC), transferring the LaraCroft.theme worm-carrying file to remote computers. The file name is presented to users in a deceitful way, masking itself as a Windows desktop decorating application according to the Tomb Raider theme. Upon starting the infected file, Lara scans the available disks, searching for the location IRC-related programs (mIRC client), and modifies their system files. As a result, the worm sends out its copies to all users connected to the same IRC-channel as the infected computer. " WBM

WBM, thanks for the warning!since the Dawn of Time(win 95 release, wuz' it in 1996? can't remember back that far...)anyways-- it occurs to me that the more *complex* the Billy Gates GUI OS & screen interface gets w/ each new *miracle* release of an "improved" MS version--- the easier it is for invasive germs to attach to folks PCs. it's impossible to help those who have No Concept. but thanks fer' trying, man-- for those who are curious: any CAD, Photoshop,TR or UnReal,HalfLife games can be run from pure DOS or Win 3.1.--- 95,98,NT,ME,2000 are not needed. when you add your friends names into a email "address book"; you are setting them up for recieving viruses--- (as if you care...) WBM--thanks for the notice---Vagrant IP: Logged |
