Hi everyone,

As you all know, I have been experiencing terrible trouble with my editor. It would not open or run at all, even after installing new drivers for my graphics card and my direct x.

I was speaking to Conan the Barbarian a.k.a Ted, and he gave me some sound advice as to what I should do to fix the problem. However, this failed, as did most other attempts to help from Sage, WBM, BRM, Driber, John Lincoln and MANY others...infact, I would say nearly every member on this forum has had a bash at trying to figure out what the problem was!

Well, as you can all guess from your own experiences, when you go looking around your system, you learn new things and discover certain parts of your PC you didn't even know existed. Well, it seems today, my wise head decided it would pay me a visit. And using this new found knowledge I managed to correct all my problems.

The room editor now opens without a single glitch and my tr4.exe runs as smooth as the day I first installed it - ever.

The problem was (for all of those who are interested), I had downloaded a new driver AGES ago for the PC. This was in May time. Well, after that you might remember my PC wouldn't start for three months and I couldn't go online or anything! I was devastated. But anyway, this new driver changed a lot of things on my PC. For example, I couldn't open the settings tab on my display to adjust the advanced settings. And my DVD wouldn't run and nor would the TRLE. I downloaded Direct X 8.a1 which was rubbish and I think didn't help matters at all. The problems still persisted and my "grrrrr" thread got longer!

As advised, I uninstalled the graphics card driver from my PC. I noticed on looking in my PC's device manager I had two of the same graphics card - and one was not responding. It seemed I had THREE versions of the same card installed on my PC at once (only guessing this cos now two were left on the pc after i uninstalled what i thought was the ONLY card there). I can only imagine the effects of this to be, well, not too good!!! So I looked at the one that wasnt responding and removed it.

Nothing worked again. So it seemed a waste of time. I decided to consult dxdiag again, after being told about it by WBM a few weeks previously. I looked through it all, and cos I was bored I guess, I did all the tests. The thing passed and I thought, "oh well". Then I noticed the troubleshooting button. I dunno why I thought it would help...it told me to open the settings tab on my display. I knew it crashed the pc everytime it was selected. This worried me - but I thought I would give it a go - and it opened. I was so happy this feature was restored. And also that cos the 2nd driver was removed, my old display preview screen was back (cos it changed to a pic of two monitors) - it had returned to how it was AGES and AGES ago.

I thought to myself I will uninstall this last driver from the system and update it with the new one i downloaded. originally i should have done this first. I thought i had removed the ONLY card driver but i was messing about with other updates --is anyone getting this?! ahem.....

well i thought i would have a look around before i did this and i noticed the acceleration was down to "none" - a safety precaution we were instructed to do in a PC magazine when we first got errors. I moved the little bar up to "full" and hey presto everything was back to normal.

That was so long but I would just like to take the oppurtunity to thank *all* those members on this site who have been thinking of ways (and have suggested ways) to fix my problem.

If I forget your name accept my sincerest apologies but those I can remember are :

The Sage Of Time, DJ, Lara Severi, Bullet Ridden Monkey, John Lincoln, Wee Bald Man, Seth Driber If and Conan the Barbarian.

Thankyou you all so much for your help. Even though the suggestions didn't seem to sort the trouble out, I managed to use the information you gave to gain access to areas and things on my PC I didn't know how to get. And therefore solving the problem.

I can only best describe the situation as a jigsaw puzzle and you all came forward with a piece and I stuck them together.

Thankyou all so much. I will now be able to finish my levels, several costumes and finally stop worrying about this pesky TRLE!!!!
