But I figured the techie guys in this forum would know more than anyone else about this.

Is there a way to convert .RPL format movies (i.e., FMVs from TR1, TR2 and TR3) into a Windows Media Player-capable format (i.e., .AVI, .MPEG - even .MOV)?

Thanks, guys!

Heck, since I'm already O/T...I love Suzie Croft's [url=http://213.130.134.2/toonraider/]Toon Raider[url] website. The "bad day" drawing just earned its way onto my desktop.

You could use 'BINK' http://www.radgametools.com/bnkmain.htm to extract all the frames and then use 'AVI edit' http://www.am-soft.ru/ and import the images and make the .AVI file

'ZING' is not a word that I am familiar with, however I will make an exception to 'YOINK'.

I have already tried converting it to .AVI with the RadTools pack, but I get an "error opening .RPL file".

.rpl is a proprietary format (it was invented by Eidos). Unfortunately, they don't support it anymore and the .rpl format is now a dodo. The only way to convert it would be to have hardware which can video grab the output 'live'. There is no software that I know of which is fast enough to keep up with the frame-rates required to keep it smooth. An editing system such as Avid or Speed Razor could do it but then you would have to know someone that has access to this kind of equipment.

Give it another year or two and it will be possible to do it with software provided free in your cornflake box.

WBM

P.S. Although it would be degraded quality you could output the FMV to VHS or similar (DV would be better) using a graphics card which has TV out capabilities and then grab it back in again in the preferred format.

ESCAPEplayer (RPL player) download at CROFT TIMES.

You can watch the rpl files with this tool. Unfortunately this program has no converting function.

That's all,

Andreas

Actually, EscapePlay comes free with Tomb Raider III Gold: The Lost Artifact, so I have it. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Here are a few ideas:
http://www.hyperionics.com/hsdx/index.html
HyperSnap-DX 4 is a screen capture tool. It captures screens from standard desktop programs and even those hard-to-grab DirectX, Direct3D, 3Dfx Voodoo and Glide mode games and from many software DVD players and other video playing software. Freeware.
http://segu.psxemu.com/
Play and extract PSX movies to be converted to DivX. Very Very Handy. Freeware.

I can only read the header from the rpl files. Never looked what was after it. Maybe I'll give it a try.

Sound recorder should be able to capture the sound, if it isn't too long. Lots of programs can merge the audio and video.
