How many of the TR4 names can you delete out of the English Script before the game starts to use single letter instead of names?

I think you have to keep the number of Script lines exactly the same.

Right, you cannot delete lines from english.txt or add lines to it. You can only replace lines with new text (or make it a blank line).
If you are trying to remove levels, remove the level sections from script.txt.
