Any 3D world engine is only as good as the people who use it think it is. An old aphorism states 'One mans wine is another mans poison', which means as far as they are concerned, there is no such thing as a generic preference.------------------ Learn to respond, not react IP: Logged |

If you mean 3d engines, then ID software's Quake III engine is the best commercially available 3d engine. Licencing it to make a game will cost you upwards of $100,000, though. I downloaded Crystal Space a while ago, but couldn't make head or tail of it.I wonder what engine Unreal II is running on - that's due out soon... IP: Logged |

But surely mister data, the better game-engine will have better animation control over its rivals, which anyone could notice upon comparison?------------------ ...An the greatest team is... IP: Logged |

That would depend on the game. Every game has different requirements. As long as a game engine does what the game needs, it is the best for that game.

Can't wait to get my hands on Doom III where the characters and props all have realtime shadows. I'm afraid TR will take a back seat when that beauty comes out. ------------------
