Hello folks.I´m sorry to say that my computer was hit by a lightning two weeks ago. It came through the telephone line and blew up my modem, motherboard, processor and some more things. So I´m lost and alone in the valley of death now! I don´t know when I´m going to fix it. All I can say is... ****!!!!! IP: Logged |

To the god of lightning:**** ******* lightning god!!! Why are you so mad? Be happy! Smile against the world! Perhaps we can create really big transparent electricity-safe umbrellas to place above our cities... ------------------ Coming soon - Discussion Domain - a whole new community... Well I'd hardly say it blew up your computer, maybe fried a few circuits. And it comes through the power lines in spikes. This is why you need a good surge protector that protects up to 1000 joules. They are about 35 dollars but that's cheaper then a new computer.IP: Logged |

Hi.Thanks for your words! I´m trying to find a way to fix it. Or maybe I´ll buy a completely new one. It was a strange situation, which never happened here before. There were two computers turned on at the same time when the lightning came down. Both conected to the same circuit. The other machine is that one which belongs to my partner (the PIII from which the Viper video card was removed months ago so I couldn´t work with LE in it anymore, I´ve told you this story). This second computer was unharmed and is working ok. I have protection circuits here, so the problem was not in the power lines. For sure the lightning came through the telephone line. Only the machine connected to the net was damaged. In this machine, the internal power suply is ok, as are all the drives (thanks god my work is there!), but the modem, motherboard and processor are lost. One of my friends who lives in the same street had his computer modem damaged by the same lightning, and the computer was not turned on when it came! So be careful with lightning storms! Turn off your machine and DISCONECT THE PHONE LINE! And maybe put it in a isolation rubber box, dig a hole in your yard and put it there to be safe (lol) Anyway I´ll be back soon! THANKS! Hi Rene! The first two levels are safe in a few CD backups. The new level is in the Hard Drive. The hard drive seems ok, I mean it´s working but I´ll need the new machine to check for my files. I can´t wait anymore! I´m going nuts! Greetings. IP: Logged |
