3dsmax creates DXF files which are NOT compatible with the standard DXF files for STRpix (AutoCAD DXF's).If you cannot use Rhino3D for several reasons, create a DXF file with 3Dsmax, then try some free CAD software compatible with AutoCAD to simply open your dxf and then save it.
When any DXF is open, it is authomatically converted in AutoCAD compatible DXF when saving.
Actually you and ADD new objects: build with TRwest a WAD composed by ONLY one object.
Substitute its meshes with STRpix and fix the collision with that program. Then import this new object in your wad with TRWest.
This is not only safe, but even good in case you suddenly corrupt the previous wad. (it can happen for many reasons even if now less frequently).
