It may be a good idea to learn how to use this app because there is talk of a level editor with the next Croft outing and the animation and object tool will probably be Maya. Kinda makes sense really don't it. IP: Logged |

Maya is a professional programme, so you won't learn it in a weekend. Btw, I heard that the file formats from the learning version are incompatible with professional version and that a watermark will be embedded on the rendered images.

Yes that's quite true, but that isn't the issue here. There is a big 'might' that Core may have a special game software version of Maya to go with the possible level editor, so it would be a good idea to learn something of it don't you think?. And then there's the possibility that it may help someone get into the field of design using Maya. IP: Logged |

I have the full version of Maya (Maya 4 Unlimited) That I got off a friend of mine. (He is a Video Game Developer) Anyway.. Trust me when I say it's not something the average person was mean't to use. It only runs in 2000\XP because of it's highly advanced features.. Also.. I noticed it doesn't have support for 3DS files which surprised me.. It also eats up resources like no other program on earth.. It's not worth the trouble for TRLE. Just thought i'd throw that in the mix..------------------ IP: Logged |

Sage, thanks for the astute Maya LE observation(*warning*) perhaps if i upgrade, i'll want to get this program. in the meantime, i use rather good tools to create TR1/TR2/TR3 levels. why would i want to complicate or lose sight of my goals/ideas?i'll get it for my non-TR computer to learn it;but no .3ds format? shame on them! reminds me of another outfit that said" you can build ANY game levels w/ our editor"... ("as long as ...they're Ours")

This is by no means 100% as yet. I think we should wait a few months to see what comes up, although I think there may be a special version of Maya if they do decide to go that way, that will only function with the new level editor; personally, I can't wait to find out.

Bit offtopic, but, TombRaiderMania, could you please turn off caps lock and use only one question/exclamation mark? It's a bit annoying.IP: Logged |

Sage, it's been said that if it were included, it would be a special version and only capable of animation for the game etc., a little like the cut down free version of 3D studio for games development, anyway as i've said countless times, it's just a possibility. I think sometimes people just read bits of a post and get the wrong end of the stick. IP: Logged |

Well i actually have the full unlimited Maya 4.0 version. Maya is way way way way way better than 3d studio crap. Maya allows you to do so much more. The bones are better and easier to use than in Max. Max's bones sucked really bad actually. Maya is so much better in everyway.IP: Logged |
