I just don't get this and it's really getting to me. WHAT THE HELL??????. When lara steps on this one square tile the game crashes and goes back to the desktop??????. It's just one ordinary tile thats the same to every other tile. It has no triggers on it or anything. This is what happens: Lara steps on the square once and if she steps off of it then on it again, It crashes and goes back to the desktop. So...... When Lara steps on the square twice it then crashes. What the hell is happening here. I just wanted to test the game and it crashed. WTF.Please help me IP: Logged |

Is this particular tile in a different room from where Lara steps off then steps on again? ------------------ Learn to respond, not react IP: Logged |

No it isn't a big roomIt is 1 click high and 5 clicks wide. It is a water room. When lara step on it twice, it goes back to the desktop IP: Logged |

Try deleting the room and creating one like that again. I don't know what else to advice. Sometimes rooms chrashed for me, if I placed too many lights in them. Try deleting lights, if there are any, too.IP: Logged |

same thing happened to me. Is the tile: -near the jeep or -in a room with many doors or -near an object you can 'use'this is where it happens but may not be the cause. try fixing minor problems in your WAD script and Project. You may have added something to your WAD or to your script. Unfortunately there are many things that may cause one of these problemos. Hope that helps Jaxx IP: Logged |

It may also be a trapdoor that isn't placed at the very top of the room. If it is, place it in the room below and raise it to the ceiling level (where the protal to the room above is).------------------ IP: Logged |

Yes, it is the trapdoor, I"m 100% sure. I have a ton of problems with trapdoors, they can crash the game at any time, mostly when you get close to them. Make sure you don't have any weird triggers for them, or they will crash the game. ------------------ Creator of professional levels (: jokami63@aol.com IP: Logged |

Hi tomb raider fan,If this is not the trapdoor, it sounds like you have a bug in your mapping that is causing knock-on effects elsewhere. The most common bug I have encountered is caused by overlapping room and rooms within rooms. The quickest way to isolate the room that is causing the problem is: 1) Make a scrap copy of your level (one that doesn't matter if it gets deleted or corrupted). 2) Delete one room at a time, output and rebuild, and playtest. Eventually you will find that your map does not crash anymore after deleting a particular room. When (if) you have identified that room, go back to your original and make another new scrap copy which contains all the rooms that your level has now. Delete just the identified room and play test. Other things to do if this does not work: Delete all the objects and play test. Delete all the lights and play test. You can also try copying and pasting each major room (those with the most amount of work done on them) into a new project file. Again, test the new project file each time you add a room to try and isolate the problem. This is all time consuming and boring and frustrating but if you continue to experience weird problems with your map then the time wasting will be much greater. Good luck - I hope you manage to find and fix the problem. WBM ------------------ Pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space, 'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth. Send the PRJ file to me and I'll see what happens when I run it on my machine. Texture the square that is causing the crash with a bright red colour or something which is obvious and let me know what mark you have used to indicate the problem square. Don't worry about confidentiality - you can trust me with your project. I'll delete it all once you've found the solution. WBM P.S. Zip the WAD and TGA file and attach them too. Might be best to send them in separate emails to avoid any attachment size limits. [This message has been edited by Wee Bald Man (edited 04-02-2002).] IP: Logged |

thanks wee bald man but i fixed the problem ( Thank **** ). I don't no why but it was this one particular pushable object. I retextured it and inserted it into my level and then whenever lara stood on this one square it crahsed but i now i fixed it. I retextured it with some new textures and then it stopped crashing. Thats VERY STRANGE. I don't no why it crashed just because of retexturing my object. Hmmm...I retextured it with some XIAN textures and that of course didn't work but then i retextured the object with some Jungle textres and then it worked. Hmmm... I wonder why it did that?????? any ideas?????? IP: Logged |

TR is quite an old engine now so there a lot of restrictions on memory. The memory allocation given to sounds associated with an object, the textures it uses, the animation of the object, and the amount of faces (polygons) it has is variable. There a few tricks that Core used to reduce the memory consumption including doubling up / sharing common elements of the game (using an element more than once). This may or not may not be what caused your problem, but I'm glad to hear that you fixed it. (It could also be an obscure TRWest / Strpix conflict).
